LA SALVACION: ¿POR LAS OBRAS DE QUIEN?

   "Ningún hombre puede ser salvo por sus obras, su salvación es la obra de Dios, no del hombre. Esta es una doctrina fundamental de la fe cristiana, afirmada en todos lados y deshonrada ampliamente. Nuestro Señor, citando a Isaías 29:13, declara: "Hipócritas, bien profetizó de vosotros Isaías, cuando dijo: Este pueblo de labios me honra; Más su corazón está lejos de mí. Pues en vano me honran, Enseñando como doctrinas mandamientos de hombres" (Mateo 15:7-9).
    Creer que la salvación es por gracia y no por obras significa que todas las obras del hombre fuera de Cristo, son inútiles para encomendarlo a Dios y para efectuar su salvación.
   Ahora Agustín dejó en claro que para un estado o gobierno civil que sea construido en otro fundamento que el Señor y su palabra, es construir nada más que una banda de ladrones. "Si Jehová no edificare la casa, En vano trabajan los que la edifican; Si Jehová no guardare la ciudad, En vano vela la guardia" (Salmo 127:1). ¿Cómo entonces podemos imaginar que cualquier ley, escuela, iglesia, estado, o cualquier otra cosa puede ser una cosa buena o una buena obra cuando está fuera de Cristo y no hay lugar para él? ¿Cómo podemos imaginar que un Estado o escuela que descuida o desprecia el hecho básico de todo ser, nuestro Señor y su soberanía, pueda ser algo sino una abominación para Él?
   Hoy, sin embargo, tenemos clérigos indignados haciendo guerra contra los pastores y cristianos que trabajan para las Escuelas Cristianas; estas personas defienden las escuelas estatales sin Dios y tratan de alejar de la iglesia todos los que les critican. Defender la educación estatal es defender un plan humanista de la salvación que busca salvar al mundo por el trabajo educativo del hombre.
   Lo mismo puede decirse del Estado. El estado humanista moderno ofrece un plan de salvation de la cuna a la tumba. Esto está en guerra con Cristo el Señor y le niega su plan de redención para sí mismo. El estado emite sus propios decretos de la predestinación, la elección y la salvación. En la actualidad, el Servicio de Impuestos Internos está tratando de quebrantar a todos los que no se ajustan a la "política pública", es decir, al plan estatal de salvación. Su doctrina de la santificación significa el cumplimiento con el estado y sus doctrinas de la justicia social. Para ser cristiano hoy requiere que nosotros estemos en contra de la gran doctrina falsa de las obras de nuestro tiempo, la salvación por las obras del Estado humanista.
   La Biblia no nos da doctrinas de pieza de museo. Cuando condena las obras del hombre no regenerado, no condena sólo a los fariseos, sino a los educadores estatistas, estatistas humanistas, republicanos, demócratas, socialistas, comunistas, y otros, a los hombres y mujeres "chauvinistas" y a todos los demás que ven una esperanza de salvación fuera del Señor y su palabra ley.
   Por su propia pasividad, formas antinómicas, la iglesia de hoy aprueba las obras de los educadores humanistas y estatistas. La Biblia no solamente condenó las formulaciones teológicas de la salvación por obras, sino que declara falsos a todos los esfuerzos del hombre para salvarse a sí mismo por sus propias obras. Los judaizantes de los tiempos de Pablo estaban equivocados, también lo esán todas las bandas organizadas de ladrones que se llaman a sí mismos un gobierno civil, y también lo son todas sus escuelas.
   Pablo declara: "Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe; y esto no de vosotros, pues es don de Dios; no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe" (Efesios 2:8-9). "Dejaos del hombre, cuyo aliento está en su nariz; porque ¿de qué es él estimado?" (Isaías 2:22). La salvación es la obra de Dios, no del hombre."

SALVATION. BY WHOSE WORKS?

   "No man can be saved by his works, his salvation is the work of God, not man. This is a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith, affirmed on all sides and dishonored widely. Our Lord, citing Isaiah 29:13, declares, "Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matt. 15:7-9).
    To believe that salvation is by grace and not by works means that all of man's works outside of Christ are futile to commend him to God and to effect his salvation.
   Now Augustine made clear that for a state or civil government to be built on any other foundation than the Lord and His word is to build nothing more than a band of robbers. "Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain" (Ps. 127:1). How then can we imagine that any law, school, church, state, or any other thing can be a good thing or a good work when it is outside of Christ and has no place for Him? How can we imagine that a state or school which neglects or despises the basic fact of all being. our Lord and His sovereignty, can be anything but an abomination to Him?
   Today, however, we have indignant churchmen waging war against pastors and Christians who work for Christian Schools; these people defend the godless state schools and seek to drive away from the church all who criticize them. To defend statist education is to defend a humanistic plan of salvation which seeks to save the world by man's educational work.
   The same is true of the state. The modern humanistic state offers a cradle to grave plan of salvation. It is at war with Christ the Lord and denies His plan of redemption for its own. The state issues its own decrees of predestination, election, and salvation. Today, the Internal Revenue Service is seeking to break all who will not conform to "public policy", i.e. to the statist plan of salvation. Its doctrine of sanctification means compliance with the state and its doctrines of social justice. To be a Christian today requires that we stand against the great false doctrine of works of our time, salvation by the works of the humanistic state.
   The Bible does not give us museum piece doctrines. When it condemns unregenerate man's works, it condemns not merely the Pharisees but the statist educators, the humanistic statists, the Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, and others, the male and female "chauvinists" and all others who see a hope of salvation outside of the Lord and His law-word.
   By its own do-nothing, antinomian ways, the church today approves the works of humanistic educators and statists. The Bible did not merely condemn theological formulations of salvation by works; it declares false every effort by man to save himself by his own works. The Judaizers of Paul's day were wrong; so too are all organized bands of thieves who call themselves a civil government, and so too are all their schools.
   Paul declares, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Eph. 2:8-9). "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" (Isa. 2:22). Salvation is the work of God, not man."
