Mascarillas

"Hay mucha confusión acerca de las mascarillas, y se han convertido en el campo de batalla oficial del COVID a medida que más estados, países, escuelas, lugares o trabajo, tiendas, etc., los MANDAN.

El problema REAL aquí es si las personas SALUDABLES deben usar mascarillas o no.

Si alguien está enfermo, use una. Claro, estoy de acuerdo con eso para el cáncer y los pacientes inmunocomprometidos.
Pero las personas sanas (asintomáticas) NO necesitan usar mascarillas. Punto.

Los medios de comunicación y los funcionarios del gobierno han perforado en nuestras cabezas que las mascarillas salvan vidas. Esto no está 100% basado en la ciencia y es una declaración muy peligrosa porque hace que los no la llevan sean una amenaza para la salud pública.

"No usas una mascarilla, eres un asesino". Y esta división tiene que parar.
¿Más vale prevenir que lamentar? No, no creo en eso debido a los riesgos potenciales para la salud (especialmente mentales y emocionales) asociados con su uso.

PRIMERO: De la Revista de Medicina de Nueva Inglaterra "Sabemos que usar una mascarilla fuera de las instalaciones de atención médica ofrece poca protección, si es que hay alguna, contra la infección [COVID-19]".https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372...

SEGUNDO: El 100% de todas las mascarillas caseras son completamente inútiles y hacen más daño que bien. La boca y la nariz deben protegerse sin posibilidad de que entren partículas en el aire por los pliegues, lo que es imposible a través de mascarillas de tela hechas en casa y compradas en la tienda. Las máscaras quirúrgicas tampoco son la respuesta al COVID-19. Lo único que puede ayudar son las N95.

TERCERO: se ha demostrado que todas las máscaras que no son N95, NO evitan la propagación del virus que se propagan a través de aerosoles (es decir, COVID-19 porque el virus es demasiado pequeño y la máscara debe ser prácticamente hermética e impermeable a las partículas microscópicas).
¿Pero qué hay de las personas en los hospitales? Si los usan médicos y enfermeras, ¿no deberíamos?

Masks

There's a bunch of confusion out there about masks, and they have become the official COVID battleground as more states, countries, schools, places or work, stores and etc MANDATE them.

The REAL issue here is whether or not HEALTHY people should wear masks.

--> If someone is sick, then wear one. Sure, I can agree with that for cancer & immune-compromised patients.
--> But healthy (asymptomatic) people do NOT need to wear masks. Period.

The media & government officials have drilled into our heads that masks save lives. This is 100% not founded on science and it's a very dangerous statement because it makes non-wearers a public health threat.

"Don't wear a mask - you're a killer." And this divisiveness needs to stop.

Better be safe than sorry? Nope, I don't buy into that because of the potential health risks (especially mental and emotional) associated with wearing them.

FIRST: From the New England Journal of Medicine "We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from [COVID-19]infection." --> https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372

SECOND: 100% of all homemade masks are completely useless and do more harm than good. The mouth and nose need to be protected with no possibility of airborne particles entering from creases, which is impossible via a homemade and store-bought cloth masks. Surgical masks are not the answer to COVID-19 either. The only thing that can possibly help are N95s.

THIRD: It's been beyond proven that all non-N95 masks do NOT prevent the spread of viruses that spread via aerosols (i.e. COVID-19 because the virus is too small and the mask needs to be virtually airtight and impermeable to microscopic particles).

But what about people in hospitals? If doctors and nurses wear them, shouldn't we?

FOURTH: We need to clarify that "face masks, as they are used today in health care setting, can be largely traced back historically to a more recent period when a new understanding of contagion based on germ theory was applied to SURGERY. --> https://www.thelancet.com/…/PIIS0140-6736(20)31207…/fulltext

¿Hay Alguien Ahi? Distanciamiento Social y la Gran Soledad del Mundo

Seis pies de distancia.
No grupos de más de diez, por seguridad.
La humanidad se retira a las cuatro paredes que siente son más una casa que un hogar.

Nosotros, los seres con almas, estamos haciendo todo lo posible para proteger y sanar nuestros cuerpos ... ¿pero nuestros corazones?

Están rotos completamente abiertos, sangrando.

Nos gustaría pensar que somos capaces de continuar en un contexto de aislamiento, que somos independientes, que el mundo puede desmoronarse a nuestro alrededor y estaremos bien.

Pero la lección que aprenderemos, la prueba sagrada que nos acaban de entregar, ha sido tomada de capítulos que no nos hemos molestado en leer como sociedad.

La conexión y el gran vacío que llamamos soledad.

Esta no es la primera vez que los seres humanos conocen una separación tan grande.

En el principio, en Génesis 3, se nos dice cómo los primeros seres humanos fueron escoltados fuera del Jardín, sacados del contacto directo con el Dios con el que habían caminado cada día.

Fue entonces cuando comenzaron a morir, tanto en cuerpo como en alma.

Durante cientos de años, las personas hicieron sacrificios de animales, tratando de comprar de nuevo  la relación que perdieron cuando eligieron la autodependencia en lugar de un Dios amoroso que nos conoce por completo y nos ve. Pero sus corazones no fueron los únicos rotos. Sus lágrimas por la conexión perdida fueron compartidas por Aquel que anhelaban.

"Ahora, así dice Jehová, Creador tuyo, 
oh Jacob, y Formador tuyo, oh Israel: 
No temas, porque yo te redimí;
te puse nombre, mío eres tú."
(Isaías 43:1)

Cristo mismo vino a ser nuestro rescate, para cerrar la brecha en la relación entre nosotros y Dios. Cuando fue a la cruz, en esa hora final las palabras sonaron de su garganta "Eloi, Eloi ¿lama sabactani?"

En pocas palabras: "Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?"

Para volver a comprar a su esposa, el Hijo de Dios tuvo que enfrentar el horror de la separación de su Padre. Pero por su acción, por su rendición, él proclamó al mundo entero qué distancia recorrería para recuperar la relación.

Y sin embargo, deambulamos, como humanidad, como Iglesia, como individuos.

De alguna manera pensamos que si nos mantenemos lo suficientemente ocupados, si llenamos nuestras vidas con suficientes cosas, reservamos nuestros días en incrementos de media hora que tal vez el dolor punzante de huir del Amor no nos alcanzará.

Ahora estamos siendo forzados a frenar. Los lugares de trabajo, las escuelas e incluso las iglesias están cerradas. Quizás el mundo nunca se haya sentido tan solo, tan incierto de cuándo volverá a surgir a la "normalidad".

La tecnología a menudo se etiqueta como un gran mal, especialmente entre las generaciones mayores de cristianos, e incluso entre los no cristianos. Is Anybody Out There? Social Distancing and the World's Great Loneliness

Six feet apart. 

No groups of more than ten, for safety's sake. 

Humankind retreats into the four corners they feel are more a house than a home.

We, the beings with souls, are doing everything we can to protect and heal our bodies.....but our hearts?
They're broke wide open, bleeding.
We'd like to think we're capable of carrying on in a context of isolation, that we are self-dependent, that the world can fall apart around us and we'll be okay.
But the lesson we'll be learning, the holy test we've just been handed has been taken from chapters we haven't bothered reading into as a society.
Connection, and the great void we call loneliness.
This isn't the first time human beings have known so great a separation.
Way back in the beginning, we are told in Genesis 3 of how the first human beings were escorted out of the Garden - ushered out of direct contact with the God they had walked with each day.
That's when they started to die, both body and soul.
For hundreds of years people made animal sacrifices - trying to buy back the relationship they lost when they chose self-dependency over a loving God who fully knows and sees us.  But their hearts weren't the only ones broken.  Their tears for the lost connection were shared by the One they longed for.

"But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.

    O Israel, the One who formed you says,

'Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.

    I have called you by name; you are Mine.' "

(Isaiah 43:1)

Christ Himself came to be our ransom, to bridge the gap in the relationship between us and God. When He went to the cross, in that final hour the words sounded from His throat "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?"

Simply put - "My God, why have You abandoned me?"

In order to buy back His Bride - the Son of God had to face the horror of separation from His Father.  But by His action, by His surrender - He proclaimed to the whole wide world what distance He would go in order to get the relationship back.

And yet we wander - as humanity, as the Church, as individuals.

Somehow we think if we stay busy enough, if we fill our lives with enough stuff, book our every day in half an hour increments that maybe the gnawing ache of running away from Love won't catch up with us.

Now we are being forced to slow.  Workplaces, schools and even churches are closing.  Perhaps the world has never felt so utterly alone, so uncertain of when "normality" shall dawn again.

Technology is often labeled as a great evil, especially among older generations of Christians - and even non-Christians.  Yet here we, millions of isolated human beings confined to our communities, yet with a world at our fingertips - thanks to the creative genius given by God to those who created the internet.

The LORD has given us the ability to reach across hundreds and thousands of miles to those we love and care about.  We may not be able to make the trip to stand face to face as we planned in hope so long ago...

But we can stand together from miles apart.  By phone, letter, Skype or messaging apps.  The world can be frightening enough when we have to face it alone.  So instead of cowering in a corner wondering how we shall get by, why don't we make full use of the time given to us?  

In a time where the distractions of everyday life have been overturned, let us strive for connection with God and with each other.  The world is far too lonely when we all pretend we're better off on our own.

Temer o No Temer

 El miedo parece estar gobernando a muchas personas en estos días. Esto probablemente siempre ha sido el caso, pero parece más evidente ahora. Ya sea por miedo a ese diminuto Coronavirus19 o por miedo a un pánico que podría emitir en un curso irreversible al socialismo en toda regla, ¡EL MIEDO está a la orden del día!
Pero por qué el miedo en cualquier caso. Sostengo que tenemos miedo porque nuestros horizontes se limitan a lo que nosotros podemos ver y lo que creemos que podemos manejar. Pero para los seguidores de Cristo este nunca ha sido el caso. Nosotros no estamos limitados a nuestros horizontes finitos sino que recurrimos a un Dios soberano ¡que nos ama! Seguirlo a El es confiar no solo el perdón de nuestros pecados sino ¡también nuestras VIDAS! Estar vivo en su reino es estar tan vivo como Adán estuvo antes de su decisión de tomar el asunto en sus propias manos. Es estar vivo BAJO Dios y así ser verdaderamente libre para vivir la vida al máximo. La base de nuestra preocupación se ha ido.
¿Significa eso que no luchamos contra este bicho viral o contra el alcance excesivo de los gobiernos en su esfuerzo por "amarnos" y mantenernos a salvo porque están tratando de hacer lo que solo Dios puede hacer? Por supuesto que no, le damos nuestros mejores esfuerzos, ¡pero no confiamos en nuestros mejores esfuerzos! ¡Confiamos en el Dios a quien pertenecemos!
El salmista dice: "Aunque ande en valle de sombra de muerte (y vamos a andar), no temeré mal alguno "... ¿por qué? ..."¡porque tú (Jesús) estarás conmigo! " ¿Quién es Jesús? El es Dios quien se convirtió en un hombre y vivió una vida de verdadera tentación y sufrimiento ... como todos nosotros ... pero enseñó y predicó sobre un tipo diferente de reino ... un reino donde la voluntad efectiva de Dios (no la nuestra) es hecha ... donde el amor triunfa sobre el odio; la bendición sobre la venganza; la justicia sobre la injusticia; un reino potenciado no por nuestra carne sino por su Espíritu (ver Mateo 5-7). Es un reino cuya efectividad Él demostró al morir y luego volver a la vida ¡en gloria! Es un reino donde nuestros pecados son perdonados. y Dios está trabajando, y estamos habilitados para unirnos a Él en ese trabajo. Es un reino sin miedo, odio o preocupación, pero es un reino que tú debes elegir entrar. ¡La única barrera son tus propios deseos!¡O bien es tu reino o el suyo! ¿Cómo te ha funcionado tu reino hasta ahora?
Alguien mucho más importante que yo dijo una vez que "lo único que debemos temer es el miedo mismo". Tenía razón, el temor de pánico engendrado puede ser ¡peor que el objeto del miedo! Hay razones genuinas para temer! Pero si JESÚS te respalda ... bueno, esas razones parecen evaporarse.
Hay un guión de una vieja película del oeste donde alguien da este sabio consejo cuando se trata de nuestros problemas y preocupaciones: "Bebe profundo y cabalga fuerte, y no mires por encima del horizonte. Eso es asunto del Señor ". Me gusta el guión pero no parece adecuado. No tenemos que mirar por encima del horizonte porque el Señor del horizonte está bebiendo profundo y cabalgando fuerte ¡justo a nuestro lado! Nuestra única preocupación es que estemos dejando que¡ Él tome la delantera y cabalgar en su dirección y en su poder! Su caballo no se cansa, su dirección es verdadera
y el destino está garantizado ... ¡independientemente de la oposición!

To Fear or Not to Fear

Fear seems to be governing many people these days. This has probably always been the case but it
seems more evident now. Whether it is fear of that tiny little Coronavirus19 or fear of a Panpanic
that could issue in an irreversible course to full-blown socialism, FEAR is the order of the day!
But why the fear in either case. I submit that we are afraid because our horizons are limited to what we can see and what we think we can manage. But for followers of Christ this has never been the case. We are not limited to our finite horizons but have recourse to a sovereign God who loves us! To follow Him is to entrust to Him not only the forgiveness of our sins but our LIVES as well! To be alive in His kingdom is to be as alive as Adam was before his decision to take matters into his own hands. It is to be alive UNDER God and thus to be truly free to live life to the fullest. The base for our worry is gone. Does that mean we do not fight against this viral varmint or against the governments over-reach in their effort to “love” us and o keep us safe because they are trying to do what only God can do? Of course not, we give it our best efforts but we don’t trust our best efforts! We trust the God to whom we belong!
The Psalmist says, “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (and we WILL so
walk), I will fear no evil”….why?.. “because Thou (Jesus) art with me!” Who is Jesus? He is God who became a man and lived a life of real temptation and suffering…just like all of us…but taught and preached about a different sort of Kingdom…a Kingdom where God’s (not ours) effective will is being done…where love triumphs over hate; blessing over vengeance; justice over injustice; a Kingdom empowered not by our flesh but by His Spirit (see Matt. 5-7). It is a Kingdom whose effectiveness He demonstrated by dying and then returning to life in glory! It is a Kingdom where our sins are forgiven and God is working, and we are enabled to join Him in that work. It is a kingdom without fear, hate or worry, but it is a Kingdom you must choose to enter. The only barrier is your own desires! It is either your kingdom or His! How has your kingdom worked out for you so far?
Someone much more important than me once said that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
He had a point, the panic fear engenders can be worse than the object of the fear! There are genuine
reasons to fear! But if JESUS has your back….well, those reasons just seem to evaporate.
There is a line in an old western where someone gives this sage advice when it comes to our troubles
and worries, “Drink deep and ride hard, and don’t look over the horizon. That’s the Lord’s business.” I like the line but it doesn’t seem adequate. We don’t have to look over the horizon because the Lord of the horizon is drinking deep and riding hard right beside us! Our only concern is that we are letting
Him take the lead and riding in His direction & in His power! His horses don’t tire, His direction is true and the destination is guaranteed….regardless of the opposition!

Salmo 23

Jehová es mi pastor.

En otras palabras, estoy bajo el cuidado de otra persona. No soy yo el que está a cargo. Tomé mi reino y lo entregué al reino de Dios. Estoy viviendo la vida con Dios. Jehová  es mi pastor. ¿Y que sigue de eso?

Nada me faltará.

Ese es el resultado natural. No me faltará nada. Eso es lo que Jesús enseña: "Buscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia", y todo lo demás será añadido (Mateo 6:33).

En lugares de delicados pastos me hará  descansar. 

¿Qué tipo de oveja se acuesta en delicados pastos? Una oveja que ha comido hasta llenarse. Si una oveja está en delicados pastos y no está llena, estará comiendo, y no descansando.

Junto a aguas de reposo me pastoreará.

Una oveja que está siendo guiada junto a aguas tranquilas es una oveja que no tiene sed. Jesús dijo a la mujer en el pozo: "Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua, volverá a tener sed; mas el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá  sed jamás; sino que el agua que yo le dare será en él una fuente de agua que salte para vida eterna" (Juan 4:13-14).

Confortará  mi alma.

Las profundidades rotas de mi alma son sanadas y reintegradas en una vida en unión con Dios: el tipo de vida eterna.

Me guiará por sendas de justicia por amor de su nombre.

El efecto de la restauración de mi alma es que ando por sendas de justicia en su nombre como una expresión natural de mi renovada naturaleza interna. Mientras ando por estas sendas, mi confianza en el Pastor es tan profunda que puedo declarar:

Aunque ande en valle de sombra de muerte, no temeré mal alguno.

Una vida sin carencia es una que no teme al mal. Nuestra confianza en Dios se eleva muy por encima de los deseos y temores. ¿Te gustaría tener una vida sin temor, una vida de gran fe? Parece que Jesús decía constantemente a sus amigos: "¡No temáis! ¡No temáis!" Imaginate cómo sería eso. Sin temor a la vida, el envejecimiento o la muerte, la enfermedad o el hambre, sin temor a ninguna persona o criatura, ni siquiera la pérdida de todas tus posesiones. Tu puedes vivir sin temor incluso en medio de un mundo dominado por el miedo.
Fácilmente podría haber elegido "no temer al mal" como el tema de este libro, porque estamos hablando de una vida de la cual el temor es eliminado. Mientras que el salmista sabe claramente sobre los peligros de la vida, el todavía puede decir: "No temeré mal alguno". ¿Por qué? Por favor, lee su respuesta en voz alta:

Porque tú estarás conmigo.

La verdad central de este libro es que la completa suficiencia de la vida sin carencia se basa en la presencia de Dios, y él está más claro y plenamente presente con nosotros en Jesucristo, Emanuel, Dios con nosotros.

Tu vara y tu cayado me infundirán aliento. 

Sé por experiencia que la vara y el cayado representan la fuerza y ​​el cuidado protector del Pastor. En este lugar seguro donde no tengo temor, estoy en libertad de disfrutar de la abrumadora generosidad de mi Pastor.

Aderezas mesa delante de mí en presencia de mis angustiadores.

Como amo a mis enemigos, (Jesús nos instruye hacer esto en Mateo 5:43-47) no me deleitaría con una comida deliciosa en su presencia y que se queden alli hambrientos. La abundancia de la provisión y la seguridad de Dios en mi vida es tan grande, que los invitaría a disfrutar de lo que Dios ha preparado para mi.

Unges mi cabeza con aceite.

Aquí podrías pensar en términos de duchas de agua caliente y toallas esponjosas, cosas que nos hacen sentir limpios, cómodos y especiales, y cómo Dios hace eso posible. Él no solo está interesado en que tenga algo maravilloso para comer, sino también en que me bendiga con una vida plena, libre y poderosa en él, que incluye la ropa, muebles cómodos, experiencias alegres y relaciones profundas. Tanto es así que la abundancia de la provisión de Dios suena desde la pluma del salmista:

¡Mi copa está llena!

 ¿Es eso lo que dice? No. "Mi copa está rebosando". Tengo más de lo que mi copa aguantará. Tanto que puedo ser tan generoso como mi Pastor sin miedo a que se me acabe. Tanto es así que estoy convencido:

Ciertamente el bien y la misericordia me seguirán todos los días de mi vida, y en la casa de Jehová moraré por largos dias.

Esta es una descripción de la vida eterna disponible para nosotros ahora en el reino de los cielos: la abundante vida con-Dios que viene de seguir al Pastor, donde moramos y permanecemos con Dios en la plenitud de su vida _ una vida en la cual se realizan todas las promesas del evangelio de Cristo. Debido a esto, no tenemos ninguna razón de estar ansiosos (Filipenses 4:6-7) el mundo es un lugar perfectamente seguro para que estemos.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd.

In other words, I'm in the care of someone else. I'm not the one in charge. I've taken my kingdom and surrendered it to the kingdom of God. I am living the with-God life. The Lord is my shepherd. And what follows from that?

I shall not want.

That's the natural result. I shall not lack anything. That's what Jesus teaches: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness," and everything else will be added (Matt. 6:33).

He makes me to lie down in green pastures.

What kind of sheep lies down in a green pasture? A sheep that has eaten its fill. If a sheep is in a green pasture and she's not full, she'll be eating, not lying down.

He leads me beside the still waters.

A sheep that is being led beside still water is a sheep that is not thirsty. Jesus said to the woman at the well, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, what whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13:14).

He restores my soul.

The broken depths of my soul are healed and reintegrated in a life in union with God: the eternal kind of life.

He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

The effect of the restauration of my soul is that I walk in paths of righteousness on his behalf as a natural expression of my renewed inner nature. As I walk these paths, my trust in the Shepherd runs so deep that I can declare:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

 A life without lack is one that carries no fear of evil. Our confidence in God soars far above wants and fears. Would you like to have a life without fear, a life of soaring faith? It seems like Jesus was constantly saying to his friends, "Fear not! Fear not!" Imaging what that would be like. No fear of life, aging or death, disease or hunger, no fear of any person or creature, nor even the loss of all your possessions. You can live without fear even in the midst of a world dominated by fear.
I could easily have chosen "fear no evil" as this book's theme, because we are talking about a life from which fear is eliminated. While the psalmist clearly knows about life's dangers, he can still say, " I will fear no evil." Why? Please read his answer out loud:

For You are with me.

The central truth of this book is that the complete sufficiency of the life without lack is based is based upon the presence of God, and he is most clearly and fully present to us in Jesus Christ, Immanuel, God with us.

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

I know from experience that the rod and staff represent the Shepherd's strength and protective care. In this safe place where I have no fear, I am at liberty to enjoy the overwhelming generosity of my Shepherd.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Since I love my enemies, (Jesus instructs us to do this in Mathew 5:43-47) I would not feast upon a delicious meal in their presence and let them stand there hungry. The abundance of God's provision and safety in my life is so great, I would invite them to enjoy what God has prepared for me.

You anoint my head with oil.

Here you might think in terms of hot showers and warm fluffy towels, things that make us feel clean, comfortable, and special, and how God makes that possible. He is not only interested in my having something wonderful to eat, but also in blessing me with a life that is full and free and powerful in him_ including clothing, comfortable furnishings, joyful experiences, and deep relationships. So much so that the abundance of God's provision rings out from the psalmist's pen:

My cup is full!

Is that what it says? No. "My cup runs over." I have more than my cup will hold. so much that I can be as generous as my Shepherd without fear of ever running out. So much so that I am convinced:

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a description of the eternal life available to us now in the kingdom of the heavens; the abundant with-God life that comes from following the Shepherd, where we dwell and abide with God in the fullness of his life_ a life in which all the promises of Christ's gospel are realized. Because of this we have no reason to be anxious (Phil. 4:6-7); the world is a perfectly safe place for us to be.

The Scriptures declare that we are to be peaceful men; long-suffering; not brawlers; returning good for evil; leaving vengeance to God; ministering to the basic needs of our enemies; and suffering minors wrongs patiently. But...

WHEN MORE SEVERE FORMS OF EVIL COME, THE RIGHTEOUS RESIST.

Those that serve God are to be salt and light. We speak truth. We live by faith. We stand in the gap. We strive to protect the innocent - to rescue those led to slaughter. We seek justice. We expose and reprove the evil works of darkness. Acceptance of or submission to evil is not a testimony to the righteous and goodness of God. We should never cloak cowardice in false piety, righteousness, or Christ-likeness for the sake of our own skins.

Jonás

Me gusta Jonás, el profeta. ¡Me recuerda a mucha gente que conozco, yo mismo incluido!

   Jonás fue ordenado por Dios para ir a predicar a Nínive y los asirios, los cuales Jonás odiaba. Él quería el juicio de Dios sobre Nínive, no su misericordia. Trató de huir de Dios y terminó miserablemente en el vientre de un gran pez. Bueno, por la gracia de Dios, y tal vez la indigestión, el pez vomitó a Jonás en tierra firme, así que tuvo que predicar a Nínive.

Jonah

I like Jonah, the prophet. He reminds me of many people I know, including myself!

   Jonah was commanded by God to go and preach to Nineveh and the Assyrians, whom Jonah hated. He wanted God's judgment on Nineveh, not His mercy. He tried  to run  away from God and ended miserably in the belly of a great fish. Well, by the grace of God, and maybe indigestion, the fish vomited out Jonah onto dry land, so he had to preach to Nineveh.

   Here was an unwilling preacher in an evil city. Yet by God's grace, the people were converted. (for a generation and more, Assyria's evil march ended.) But we are told, Nineveh's conversion "displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry" (Jon. 4:1).

   Nineveh was hot country. Jonah's shade was a gourd vine, under which he rested. God, however, killed the gourd vine, and so Jonah pouted and complained to God angrily. God then rebuked Jonah for feeling sorry over the death of a gourd vine but at the same time having no pity for Nineveh whose inhabitants numbered 120,000 children alone.

   In other words, Jonah had a warped perspective: his comfort  was more important than God's work and the lives of untold numbers of men, women, and children. In this respect, too many of us are like Jonah, too much absorbed with our own feelings to think of God and others. God was very patient with Jonah. Pray that He be patient with us.

La Resurrección

En un momento dado en una audiencia ante el rey Agripa, San Pablo hace una pregunta: "¿Se juzga entre vosotros cosa increíble que Dios resucite a los muertos?" (Hechos 26:8). El rey nunca respondió a esa pregunta.

   Los hombres en ese tiempo, no se atrevían a cuestionar la resurrección de Jesucristo. Había demasiados testigos: en una ocasión los testigos numeraban "más de quinientos" (1 Co. 15:6). Más tarde, en la época apostólica, cuando los testigos habían muerto en su mayoría, se hicieron observaciones escépticas porque los testigos estaban con seguridad muertos.

   ¿Por qué, preguntó Pablo, es tan increíble la idea para ustedes? Los hombres creen en todo tipo de maravillas en el reino natural; ¿por qué el Dios que hizo todas las cosas, no sea capaz de más grandes maravillas?

   Pero el mundo romano tenía un problema con la resurrección. Roma creía que el pináculo de todo el poder era el Imperio Romano; el Senado declaró que los hombres podrían convertirse en dioses, por lo que incluso los dioses eran criaturas de Roma. Para Roma creer en un poder que no es de este mundo, que controla todas las cosas, era anatema. Para alguien a quien habían ejecutado por crucifixión, de haber resucitado de entre los muertos, significaba que él tenía más poder que la Roma imperial. Esto se negaron a creer, y pronto llamaron la noción, una superstición.

   Roma se ha ido ahora, pero la pregunta permanece. El Cristo resucitado, como Rey de toda la creación, está por encima de todos los hombres y las naciones como su Señor.    Esto significa también que con el tiempo se doblará toda rodilla delante de él, "y toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre" (Flp. 2:10-11).

   Desde antes de los tiempos de Roma, hasta ahora, las riendas del gobierno humano, han estado a menudo en las manos del mal, con resultados lamentables. The Resurrection

At one point in a hearing before King Agrippa, St. Paul asks a question: "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?" (Acts 26:8). The king never answered that question.

   Men at that time did not dare question the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There were too many eyewitnesses: on one occasion the witnesses numbered "above five hundred" (1 Cor. 15:6). Later in the apostolic age, when the witnesses had mostly died, skeptical remarks were made because the witnesses were safely dead.

   Why, asked Paul, is the idea so incredible to you? Men believe in all kinds of marvels in the natural realm; why should the God who made all things not be capable of greater wonders?

   But the Roman world had a problem with the resurrection. Rome believed that the pinnacle of all power was the Roman Empire; the senate declared what men could become gods, so that even the gods were creatures of Rome. For Rome to believe in a power not of this world controlling all things was anathema. For someone whom they had executed by crucifixion to have risen from the dead meant that He had more power than imperial Rome. This they refused to believe, and they soon called the notion a superstition.

   Rome is now gone, but the question remains. The risen Christ, as King of all creation, stands over all men and nations as their Lord. All their powers are as nothing before His dominion and government. Then, as Paul sums it up, indeed He "is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords" (1 Tim. 6:15).

   This means too that in time every knee shall bow before Him, "and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Phil. 2:10-11).

   From before Rome's day until now, the reins of human government have often been in evil hands, with sorry results. Behind all this stands the risen Lord, making all things work together for good for His people and Kingdom (Rom. 8:28). Therefore, rejoice!

La idolatría no se trata sólo de la adoración. También se trata del miedo, la obediencia, el servicio y la adoración. Los hombres son culpables de idolatría cuando dan a una persona, objeto, potencia, o institución el lugar que sólo Dios debe tener.

Hay una tendencia entre los hombres, a procurar el lugar de Dios. Dado que sólo Dios es el árbitro del bien y del mal, el hombre se enaltece a sí mismo al lugar de Dios, cuando afirma una norma alternativa del bien y del mal.

Cuando los hombres establecen normas alternativas del bien y del mal, pervierten la verdad, la justicia y la rectitud. Los hombres bajo este tipo de autoridad pervertida, deben escoger obedecer a Dios o a los hombres. La continúa obediencia, servicio y lealtad a un gobierno tan corrupto, es idolatría.

"NO TE INCLINARÁS A ELLAS, NI LAS HONRARÁS."

Los primeros cristianos perseguidos entendieron esta elección. Los romanos pusieron a prueba su lealtad al Estado exigiendo que juracen "César es señor," ofrecer sacrificios a los dioses romanos, o hacer un juramento por la "suerte de César." Ellos optaron por obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres y fueron masacrados sin piedad por su resistencia justa.

WHO DECIDES WHAT IS GOOD & EVIL

THERE IS ONE LAWGIVER, WHO IS ABLE TO SAVE AND TO DESTROY.

This simple statement is central to Christian teaching, thought, and principle. It is not for men or angels to assert an alternate standard of right and wrong. Yet, rebellion in the Kingdom of God often starts with subverting God's righteous standard. Satan's challenge to Eve in the garden claimed that what God had called evil - do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge - was not really evil, but good. Satan's method to draw Adam and Eve away from God is alive and well today. Men perpetually seek to redefine good and evil. But how should we define good and evil?

DO WE GET THE WISEST MEN TOGETHER TO DECIDE?
DO WE TAKE A VOTE? LET THE MASSES DECIDE?
DO WE ELECT A PRESIDENT AND LET ONE MAN DECIDE?

IS THE U.S. SUPREME COURT THE ARBITER OF RIGHT AND WRONG?

IS GOVERNMENT YOUR GOD?

"THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME."
EXODUS 20:3

Idolatry is not just about worship. It is also about fear, obedience, service, and adoration. Men are guilty of idolatry when they give a person, object, power, or institution the place that only God should have.

There is a tendency for men to seek the place of God. Since God alone is the arbiter of good and evil, man exalts himself to the place of God when he asserts an alternate standard of good and evil. 

When men establish alternate standards of right and wrong, they pervert truth, justice, and righteousness. Men under this kind of perverted authority must choose to obey God or men. Continued obedience, service, and loyalty to such a corrupted government is idolatry.

"THOU SHALT NOT BOW DOWN THYSELF TO THEM, NOR SERVE THEM."
EXODUS 20:5

The early persecuted Christians understood this choice. The Romans tested their fealty to the state by demanding that they swear "Cesar is lord," offer sacrifices to Romans gods, or swear an oath by the "luck of Cesar." They chose to obey God rather than men and were mercilessly slaughtered for their righteous resistance.

CHRISTIANS MUST REMAIN LOYAL TO THEIR HIGHEST AUTHORITY
