4. Bestialidad: Lv. 20:16; 18:23; Éx. 22:19; Dt. 27:21.
5. Ser una adivina o una bruja (hechicera): Éx. 22:18; Lv. 20:27.
6. Transgresión del pacto: Dt. 17:2-5.
7. Incesto: Lv. 20:11, 12, 14, 17.

Divorce

Marriage in Scripture is the voluntary union of two persons, a man and a woman, in wedlock; although marriages were commonly arranged, consent was also secured. Without consent, the union is always in effect rape. Calvin and Luther both stressed the fact of mutual consent as necessary to a valid marriage in their discussion of the Jacob-Leah episode. The question can be raised then as to why Jacob accepted Leah. The answer is clearly that he was in a coercive situation. He had been shamed and taken advantage of by Laban, who knew that Jacob had no legal recourse as a stranger. In a sense, it was a rape of Jacob, who could do nothing except protest or run away, but could not exert his legal rights successfully.
Union involves mutual consent; the dissolution of marriage does not. The most common form of divorce is by death. This could be not only a natural death, which is not strictly a divorce, but a legal execution, which divorced the culprit from life, society, and spouse. Those who were missionaries for idolatrous cults were subject to death and therefore divorce (Deut. 13:1-11). The pre-Mosaic law required death for adultery, as the Tamar incident shows (Gen. 38:24), David expected it for his own sin (II Sam. 12:5), and it required a word from the Lord, Nathan message, "thou shalt not die" (II Sam. 12:13) to avoid that sentence.
In some cultures, there is no divorce by death, as witness Mormonism, is sealed marriages. In other societies, the wife was slain (as in Hinduism until recently) to prevent remarriage or continued life apart from her spouse. The mosaic law and our Lord (Matt. 22:23-33) refused to recognize such customs by giving permission to remarry and by limiting marriage to this mortal state.
To return to divorce by death, Biblical law divorced the guilty party from the innocent by means of death for many offenses. Some of the laws whereby a woman could be divorced by death and remarry are the following, al of which require the death penalty for the man:

1. Adultery: Deut. 22:20-25; Lev. 20:10.
2. Rape: Deut. 22:25, 26.
3. Incest: Lev. 20:11, 12, 14, 17.
4. Homosexuality or sodomy: Lev. 20:13 (18:22).
5. Bestiality: Ex. 22:19; Lev. 18:23; 20::15; Num. 35:16-21.
6. Premeditated murder: Ex. 21:12, 14; Num. 35:16-21.
7. Smiting father or mother: Ex. 21:15.
8. Death of a woman from miscarriage due to assault and battery: Ex. 21:22, 23.
9. Sacrificing children to Molech: Lev. 20:2-5
10. Cursing father and mother: Ex. 21:17; Lev. 20:9.
11. Kindnapping: Ex. 21:16.
12. Being a wizard: Lev. 20:27 (cf. Deut. 13:1-11).
13. Being a false prophet or dreamer: Deut. 13:1-5; 18:20.
14. Apostasy: Deut. 13:6-16; 17:2-5.
15. Sacrificing to other gods: Ex. 22:20.
16. Refusing to follow the decision of judges: Deut. 17:12.
17. Blasphemy: Lev. 24:16.
18. Sabbath desecration: Num. 15:32-36 (This appears, not as a part of the legislation, but from a special instance in the wilderness).
19. Transgressing the covenant: Deut. 17:2-5.

Divorce by death was obtainable by men because of the following death penalties cited for women, and denunciation was obligatory on the believer (Deut. 13:1-11; Luke 14:26):

1. Unchastity before marriage: Deut. 22:21.
2. Adultery after marriage: Deut. 22:22-23; Lev. 20:10.
3. Prostitution by a priest's daughter: Lev. 21:9.
4. Bestiality: Lev. 20:16; 18:23; Ex. 22:19; Deut. 27:21.
5. Being a wizard or a witch (sorceress): Ex. 22:18; Lev. 20:27.
6. Transgressing the covenant: Deut. 17:2-5.
7. Incest: Lev. 20:11, 12, 14, 17.

Marriage and Woman

...The Biblical doctrine shows us the wife as the competent manager who is able to take over all business affairs if needed, so that her husband can assume public office as a civil magistrate; in the words of Proverbs 31:23, he can sit "in the gates," that is, preside as a ruler or judge. Let us examine the women of Proverbs 31:10-31, whose "price is far above rubies." Several things are clearly in evidence:
1. Her husband can trust her moral, commercial, and religious integrity and competence, (vss. 11,12,29-31).
2. She not only manages her household competently, but she can also manage a business with ability (vss. 13-19, 24-25). She can buy and sell like a good merchant and manage a vineyard like an experienced farmer.
3. She is good to her family, and good to the poor and the needy (vss. 20-22).
4. Very important, "She openth her mouth with wisdom: and in her tongue is the law of kindness" (vs. 26). The useless woman of the Age of Reason, and the useless socialite or jet set woman of today who is a show-piece and a luxury, can and does speak lightly, and as a trifler, because she is a trifle. The godly woman, however, has "in her tongue the law of kindness." People, men and women, who are not triflers avoid trifling and cheap, malicious talk. Loose talk is the luxury of irresponsibility.
5. She does not eat "the bread of idleness" (vs. 27); i.e., the godly is not a mere luxury and a pretty decoration. She more than earns her keep.
6. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her" (vs. 28).
Obviously, such a woman is very different from the pretty doll of the Age of Reason, and the highly competitive masculinized  woman of the 20th century who is out to prove that she is as good as any man, if not better.
A Biblical faith will not regard woman as any the less rational or intelligent than man; her reason is normally more practically and personally oriented in terms of her calling as a woman, but she is not less intelligent for that.
Another note is added by King Lemuel in his description of the virtuous woman:
7. "Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who reveres the LORD will be praised" (vs. 30, Berkely Version).
Nothing derogatory towards physical beauty is here intended, and, elsewhere in Scripture, especially in the Song of Solomon, it is highly appreciated. The point here is that, in relation to the basic qualities of a true and capable help-meet, beauty is a transient virtue, and clever, charming ways are deceitful and have no value in the working relationship of marriage.
Important thus as the role of a woman is as mother, Scripture presents her essentially as a wife, i.e., a help-meet. The reference is therefore not primarily to children but to the Kingdom of God and man's calling therein. Man and wife together are in the covenant called to subdue the earth and to exercise dominion over it.
There are those who hold that procreation is the central purpose of marriage. Certainly the command to "increase and multiply" is very important, but a marriage does not cease to exist if it be childless. St. Augustine wrongly held that I Timothy 5:14 required procreation and define children as the basic purpose of marriage, and many hold to this opinion. But St. Paul actually said that he was requiring that the younger women, or widows, specially marry and have children rather than seeking a religious vocation (I Tim. 5:11-15); this is very different from a definition of marriage as procreation. Luther for some time held to the belief that marriage served to provide for procreation and to relieve concupiscence. (Augustine had limited sexual relations to "the necessities of production.") Edith Simon calls attention to the change in Luther's thinking on the subject:

Before Luther had himself cast off celibacy, he had condemned it merely as a source of continual temptation and distraction to those who were not equal to perpetual chastity_in other words, his attitude then was still basically orthodox, accounting chastity as the higher state. Upon his own experience of marriage, however, that attitude was changed dramatically to one more positive. Perpetual chastity was bad. Only in marriage were human beings able to acquire the spiritual health which they had used to seek in the cloister. So the strange thing was that before he had ever experienced sexual release himself, Luther saw marriage as a primarily physical affair, and afterwards saw its benefits as primarily spiritual _evidently not for want of physical communion.

God Himself defined Eve's basic function as a help-meet; important as motherhood is, it cannot take priority over God's own declaration.

LA MUJER QUE TEME A JEHOVÁ - III Parte

3. Las Bendiciones del Temor del Señor

2. Madres, haz memorizar a tus hijas Proverbios 31:10-21.

THE WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD - Part III

3. The Blessings of the Fear of the Lord

(a). Those who fear God will not lack_O fear the LORD , you His saints; for those who fear Him, there is no want [lack]. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; but they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing, Psalm 34:9,10. (See also Proverbs 15:16, Psalm 112:1,3, Proverbs 22:4.)

(b). Those who fear God will be content with their work and family_How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you. You wife shall be like a fruitful vine, within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD, Psalm 128:1-4.

(c). Those who fear God will be in utmost safety with no reason to fear anything or anybody else_The fear of the LORD leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil, Proverbs 19:23.

(d). Those who fear the Lord will have prolonged lives_The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be shortened, Proverbs 10:27.

(e). The heart, eye and hand of God rest upon those who fear Him.

(1). God's Heart_Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him, Psalm 103:13.

(2). God's Eye_Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine, Psalm 33:18.

(3). God's Hand_How great is Thy goodness, which thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, Psalm 31:19

C. HOW IS THIS FEAR OF THE LORD TO BE OBTAINED & EXPERIENCED?

First, study the Bible to know God and to know His will for you_Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD, Psalm 34:11. The one who despises the Word will be in debt to it, but the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded, Proverbs 13:13.

Second, pray earnestly that God would stir up your heart with knowledge of Him to fear Him, that He would turn your knowledge about God into personal knowledge of God_Teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in Thy truth; unite my heart to fear Thy name. I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and will glorify thy name forever, Psalm 86:11-12. For if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding; if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will discern the fear of the LORD, and discover the knowledge of God, Proverbs 2:3-5.

Third, believe that dread of God can be turned into affectionate fear of God through Jesus Christ, because judgement fell on Christ instead of on us_He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds we were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls, I Peter 2:24-25.

                                                    Conclusion

   1. Wives, memorize this passage and make it your daily companion and the pattern for your life, which pattern you will not reach without faith in Christ, submission to His Word, fear of God and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.

   2. Mothers, have your daughters memorize Proverbs 31:10-21.

   3. Single men, look for this kind of woman to be your wife. Make sure you are worthy of such a woman by being a God-fearing man yourself.

How valuable also is this picture, as a directory for the marriage choice! Let virtue not beauty be the primary object. Set against the vanity of beauty the true happiness connected with a woman who fears the Lord. Here is the solid basis for happiness. "If," says Bishop Beveridge, "I choose her for her beauty, I shall love her no longer than while that continues; and then farewell at once both duty and delight. But if I love her for her virtues; then, though all other sandy foundations fail, yet will my happiness remain entire."- Bridges, p. 628

   4. If this full length portrait of a virtuous woman is a model of godliness, we must observe that total devotion to the Lord does not in any way slacken our attention to temporal, social and physical responsibilities. Rather, "it renders a woman [and a man], scrupulously exact in all her household obligations, in everything within her province; careful not by her negligence to bring reproach upon her holy profession [of faith in Christ],"- Bridges, p. 628.

   5. Thus we conclude our study of "this looking-glass [mirror] for ladies, which they are desired to open and dress themselves by; and, if they do so, their adorning will be found to praise, and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ."- Matthew Henry, p. 805.

1"Wisdom" in the book of Proverbs is deep INSIGHT into the true nature of things that comes with an increasing understanding of the Bible; and the SKILL to apply these insights practically to our everyday lives.

2 Aging does not mean the loss of beauty to those who love you. As an older man told me once, the reason older women look beautiful to him now, whereas they did not when he was a young man, is because, as he has aged, his eyes have grown older as well. What once was not attractive to him, is now attractive.

The Case Against the Use of Oral Contraceptives

The use of the birth control pill gained rapid and widespread acceptance in the 1960's and 1970's. This acceptance marked (and promoted) a major change in our culture, which few persons have realized. For the first time in human history, it became much more possible to separate the act of sex and the process of reproduction. Pleasure, even among the married, has become the main (and in many cases the only) reason for sex. The fundamental relationship of sex to reproduction has often become only an unwanted side effect.
Physicians, and the public at large were won over to the use of the Pill by a variety of reasons. One reason was the "lesser of two evils" idea. That idea reasoned that prevention of an unwanted pregnancy was better than abortion. However, the rate of abortion has closely paralleled the use of oral contraceptives. Now we know that contraception and abortions are closely linked philosophically, psychologically and in biological ways. The widespread cultural acceptance of the Pill mentally denies the great and unchanging truth that children are a blessing from God.
The "good" that was hoped for has become overwhelmed by the negative aspects of the Pill and the related anti-child philosophy. Few plausible reasons remain for its use.

Basic Physiology: Definitions

Ovulation - the release of an egg (ovum) by a woman's ovary, normally in her reproductive cycle.

Fallopian tube - the part of the uterus that reaches around the ovary and through which the egg must travel to reach the uterine cavity. Most pregnancies are conceived while the egg is in the tube.

Fertilization - when an egg is joined with a single sperm and an embryo results. This is considered by scientists and the courts as the beginning of life.

Implantation - when an embryo implants within the lining of the uterus and develops a sac, placenta and blood supply.

Breakthrough Ovulation - when egg production is not inhibited by the Pill

Endometrium _ the lining of the uterus.

A normal woman produces an egg in the middle of her reproductive cycle, about two weeks after her menstrual period starts. Her bodily changes allow only a few days during which fertilization of this egg can occur. The birth control pill changes this normal pattern in several ways: by stopping ovulation, reducing transport through the Fallopian tube, creating an unfavorable endometrial lining and by changing the cervical mucus. We discuss each of these changes below.

Inhibiting Ovulation

The original intention for the birth control pill was to inhibit ovulation, or the release of an egg (ovum) by a woman in her reproductive cycle. The original Pill contained high doses of hormones and prevented ovulation rather well. During the 1960's, a medium dose (now considered a high dose) was used widely because the higher doses had too many side-effects. Most birth control pills today are a combination of two hormones with varying strengths and potencies.
If ovulation is not completely prevented, then fertilization (thus, pregnancy) is possible. Over the last 30 years, studies have shown that "breakthrough" ovulation rates are 2 - 10%. This assumes that no pills are forgotten or skipped. If a pill is missed, then chances of breakthrough ovulation are higher. Many common medications, such as antibiotics, can further decrease the Pill's effectiveness in preventing ovulation.
Ovulation can be detected both by direct and indiret methods. The most obvious way to detect breakthrough ovulation is when someone gets pregnant while "on the Pill." This rate is commonly accepted to be 1-2 pregnancies per 100 woman-years (100 women taking the Pill continuously for one year).
Another way to detect breakthrough ovulation is the direct observation of an empty egg sac on an ovary of someone taking the pill. This has been observed on many occasions. Using ultrasound (sonograms), researchers can demonstrate the developing follicle (sac that holds an egg before release) and concluded that up to 4% of these release their eggs in spite of taking (low dose) birth control pills.
The "mini-pill" was popular for a while, but has been mostly abandoned. It had breakthrough ovulation rates of about 14%. This pill contained only a single type of hormone, much like the newer method, the implantable hormone called Norplant. Depo-Provera is a once-a-month shot of a similar hormone, with similar effects.
The original goal of the birth control pill was to prevent pregnancy by stopping egg production. However, in some cases, it may also prevent pregnancy by one of the following methods.

Tubal Transport Effects

Hormonal contraceptives slow down the transport of an embryo or egg in the fallopian tube. This can cause the egg or embryo to "dry out" and die.

                                                     Endometrial Effects

The Pill has several other known effects, even in the more recent "low dose" forms. One effect is the prevention of implantation. The Pill affects the lining of the uterus in such a way that makes it unfavorable for a fertilized egg to implant and continue its normal development.
These two effects (tubal effect and endometrial changes) mean that an egg is produced and fertilized but is then not allowed to develop normally. This is the same as a very early abortion.

Cervical Mucus Changes

The mucus that is normally present in a woman's cervix goes through predictable changes in a normal cycle. The mucus normally becomes thin and stretchy at the time of ovulation. This allows the passage of sperm at the time of intercourse. This natural effect increases the chance of becoming pregnant. The birth control pill causes this mucus to remain sticky and thick, being somewhat of a barrier to sperm. However, it is clear that sperm can get through anyway in some cases.

Side Effects

The list of side effects for the birth control pill is very long. Some side-effects are not dangerous at all, and some are life-threatening. Nearly all of the physical side-effects are related to the change from the natural function of a woman's body. Very often, the false assurance gained by the pill leads to sexually transmitted diseases.
Emotional side effects occur in some women with the change in hormone balance. This can be very disturbing to her or her family. We have observed many women seem relieved when they stop taking the pill. They convey a sense of guilt often, even if they have not "felt" guilty before then. Many have an uneasy feeling about the unnatural things that occur when taking the pill.
The Pill is often associated with promiscuity. When this is true, spiritual side effects also happen. Shame, poor self image and rebellion can poison a woman's spiritual life.

Conclusions

Outside of real medical uses, the birth control pill plays a big role in an anti-child philosophy. It is closely related to the abortion philosophy and does actually cause early abortions in some cases. The Pill promotes sexual activity for pleasure alone. It often encourages irresponsible or promiscuous sexual activity. The Pill is very unnatural and has many side-effects.
These values represented by the birth control pill are unbiblical and mostly immoral.

Recommendations

Contraception should not be a medical issue. It is a family issue, decided by mutual family values. Rare is the medical need for the birth control pill.
Some other forms of birth control (besides the Pill) are also not recommended. These forms are likewise considered to cause abortion. They include the intra-uterine devices (IUD), the new French pill (RU-486) and the so-called "morning after" pill.

... The recommended abstinence method is Natural Family Planning. This is a scientific way for a woman to determine when her egg is produced. Then she can avoid intercourse for a few days to prevent pregnancy. This requires an informed and willing husband. This method produces a lot of satisfaction for couples who use it. It should not be confused with the "rhythm" or "calendar" methods. We are fortunate to have excellent certified instructors available locally who can teach you the Natural Family Planning method. Please ask us for more information if you are interested.

LA MUJER QUE TEME A JEHOVÁ - II Parte

- Bridges

   a. Los Dos Elementos del Temor del Señor

(4). La obediencia a Dios. Considera a Abraham.

THE WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD - Part II

2. The Nature of the Fear of the Lord

It [fear of God] is that affectionate reverence by which the child of God bends himself humbly and carefully to his Father's law. His wrath is so bitter, and His love so sweet, that hence springs an earnest desire to please Him.- Bridges

a. The Two Elements of the Fear of the Lord

(1.) Fear of the Holy and Righteous Judgment of Almighty God

My flesh trembles for fear of Thee, and I am afraid of Thy judgments, Psalm 119:120.

(See also Deuteronomy 17:13, 21:21, Psalm 119:120, 27:1, 3:6, Philippians 2:12,13, Romans 11:20,21, Matthew 10:28.) True faith trembles before revealed Divine threatenings _For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if you neglect so great a salvation, Hebrews 2:1f. A God-fearing person is one who knows contrition of heart for his sin; and who always takes into account the righteous judgment of God before whom he will stand.

     (2) Awe, Reverence and Adoration Before the Glory, Majesty, Beauty and Resplendent Transcendence of God

Great and marvelous are Thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty, righteous and true are Thy ways, Thou King of the nations. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? for Thou alone art holy..., Revelation 15:3-4

(See also Isaiah 6:1f, Revelation 15:3,4, 1:13f.) God sometimes overwhelms us as He did the seraphim and Isaiah in Isaiah 6. To know God at all is to fear Him, for to know Him is to know Him who is majestic in holiness.
The fear of God in us is that frame of heart and mind which reflects our apprehension of who and what God is; and who and what God is will tolerate nothing less than total commitment to Him.-John Murray, PRINCIPLES OF CONDUCT

B. THE ACCOMPANIMENTS, FRUIT AND STIMULANTS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

(1). An all-pervasive sense of the presence of God_Where can I go from Thy Spirit? Or where can I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, Thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there thy hand will lead me, and thy right hand will lay hold of me, Psalm 139:7-10.

(2). An all-pervasive sense of our dependance upon God and of our responsibility to Him in all we do and think_for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist through Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him,  I Corinthians 8:6. (See also Psalm 139:1-6, 13-16, 23,24, Acts 17:26-28, Romans 11:36, I Corinthians 8:6, Hebrews 2:10, Revelation 4:11.)

(3). A constant consciousness of our relation to God. The first thought of the godly person in every circunstance is -God's relationship to him and to the circumstance, and his and its relationship to God. That is God-consciousness; and that is what the fear of God is.

(4). Obedience to God. Consider Abraham. Next to his faith in God's promise, instant obedience to God is the outstanding feature of Abraham's life _ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of works, faith was perfected, James 2:21-22. And it was because he feared the Lord that he obeyed the Lord's voice. He could offer up his child of promise because he feared God. Nothing had value or meaning for Abraham except in terms of his relationship to God. Paul said that he counted everything as "dung" compared to his relation to God in Christ. This means that the fear of the Lord shows itself in withholding nothing from God, however dear to us it may be, Genesis 22:12. Furthermore, when we fear God we learn to hate evil_The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate, Proverbs 8:13, and we depart from it_ By the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil, Proverbs 16:6
