Día de la Independencia

Mis pensamientos ... Hace mucho tiempo, en una galaxia muy, muy lejana, Patrick Henry declaró "¡Dame libertad o dame muerte!" ¡Tal sentimiento llenó los corazones de nuestros Padres fundadores mientras se preparaban para la difícil y lejos de ser segura, búsqueda para obtener la libertad de las manos del Rey Jorge! Se comprometieron a seguir este curso a costa de sus vidas, sus fortunas y sus honores sagrados ... ¡y para muchos de ellos es exactamente el costo que pagaron! Nuestros abuelos más recientes atacaron las playas de Normandía, Iwo Jima y otras áreas fuertemente fortificadas en medio de un conflicto contra una tiranía más reciente. Ellos no sabían que morirían, pero estaban dispuestos... ¡y muchos lo hicieron! ¡Tal es el precio de la libertad!

Pero hoy, Estados Unidos parece estar poblado por un tipo diferente de personas. El "patriota" de hoy dice "¡Dame SEGURIDAD, o dame muerte!" ¿Por qué los estadounidenses de hoy tienen tanto miedo a la libertad? ¡Probablemente porque es muy arriesgado! Después de todo, la libertad pone la responsabilidad de nuestra seguridad sobre nosotros mismos... ¡y podríamos cometer un error! Es más seguro dejarlo en manos de los expertos. ¡Eso pensaban los alemanes en los años 30! Al asumir la responsabilidad por nosotros mismos, podemos morir ... ¡pero al menos habremos vivido!

Los estadounidenses de hoy también temen que la libertad real signifique una reducción de todos los beneficios que obtenemos de nuestros señores gubernamentales que nos aman tanto y solo están interesados ​​en nuestra felicidad individual ... ¿o es más bien mantenernos complacientes y bajo control? !

También hay poderes trabajando en nuestra sociedad deseosos de eliminar la libertad real de nuestra tierra. Están trabajando en el gobierno, la atención médica, los medios de comunicación, la educación y la mayoría de las demás instituciones sociales. Creen que aquellos a quienes sirven no saben lo suficiente como para cuidarse sin poner en riesgo a todos los demás. ¡También creen que lo hacen y que es exactamente donde están más equivocados! Solo Dios sabe con ese tipo de conocimiento y Él es el único fundamento realmente necesario para una libertad verdadera y robusta. ¡Pero nuestra sociedad ha echado a Dios a la calle y por eso, en su amor por nosotros, está permitiendo que esa decisión dé "fruto"!

¿Crees que vale la pena morir por la libertad? Si es así, detén la locura ... apaga las noticias (que es propaganda descarada), quítate las mascarillas (a menos que pienses que realmente funcionan y que para lo que funcionan es realmente una amenaza); no avergüences a los demás por el "pecado" de estar en desacuerdo contigo; abre tu negocio; no impongas "mandatos" ilegales; no te disculpes por algo que no hiciste (que en realidad es mentir); y vive esta aventura llamada VIDA! ¡Reúnete con familiares y amigos, disfruta de una parrillada, habla de cerca y manténte a un pie de distancia de tu vecino (cualquier cosa más cercana es íntima)! ¡Deja de preocuparte por la muy pequeña posibilidad de que mueras si contraes un coronavirus, o de que se lo vas a dar a alguien más sin siquiera saber que estás enfermo!

Para que la sociedad se abra, tendrás que abrirte. No esperes permiso ... ¡las personas libres no requieren permiso! Si vale la pena luchar por la libertad, ¡vale la pena vivirla! ¡Que tengan un feliz Día de la Independencia! ¡Ojalá haya otro!

Independence Day

My thoughts....A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Patrick Henry declared “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!” Such sentiment filled the hearts of our founding Fathers as they prepared for the difficult and far from certain quest to wrest liberty from the hands of King George! They vowed to pursue this course at the cost of their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honors....and for many of them this is exactly the cost they paid! Our more recent grandfathers stormed the beaches of Normandy, Iwo Jima and other heavily fortified areas in the midst of a conflict against a more recent tyranny. They did not know they would die but they were willing to....and many did! Such is the price of liberty!

But today, America seems populated by a different sort of people. Today's “patriot” says “Give me SAFETY, or give me Death!” Why are today's American's so afraid of liberty? Probably because it's so risky! After all, liberty places the responsibility for our safety upon ourselves....and we might make a mistake! It's more safe to leave it in the hands of the experts. That's what the Germans thought in the 30's! In our taking responsibility for ourselves we may indeed die...but at least we will have lived!

Today's Americans are also afraid that real liberty will mean a curtailment of all the goodies we get from our governmental overlords who love us so much and are only interested in our individual happiness....or is it instead to keep us complacent and under control!

There are also powers at work in our society desirous of removing real liberty from our land. They are at work in government, health care, media, education and most every other social institution. They believe that those they serve don't know enough to take care of themselves without putting everyone else at risk. They also believe that they do and that is exactly where they are most in error! Only God knows with that kind of knowledge and He is the one truly necessary foundation for a true and robust freedom. But our society has kicked God to the curb and so, in His love for us, He is allowing that decision to bear “fruit”!

Do you believe that Liberty is worth dying for? If it is, then stop the insanity.....turn off the news (which is blatant propaganda), take off your masks (unless you think they actually work and that what they work for is actually a threat); don't shame others for the “sin” of disagreeing with you; open your business; don't enforce unlawful “mandates”; don't apologize for something you didn't do (which is really lying); and live this adventure called LIFE! Get together with family and friends, enjoy a barbeque, be a close-talker and stand a foot away from your neighbor (anything closer is intimate)! Quit worrying about the very minute chance you are going to die if you catch a coronavirus, or that you're going to give it to some one else without even knowing your sick!

In order for society to open up you will have to open yourself up. Don't wait for permission....free people don't require permission! If liberty is worth fighting for it is surely worth living for! Have a Happy Independence Day! Hopefully, there will be another!

Mascarillas

"Hay mucha confusión acerca de las mascarillas, y se han convertido en el campo de batalla oficial del COVID a medida que más estados, países, escuelas, lugares o trabajo, tiendas, etc., los MANDAN.

El problema REAL aquí es si las personas SALUDABLES deben usar mascarillas o no.

Si alguien está enfermo, use una. Claro, estoy de acuerdo con eso para el cáncer y los pacientes inmunocomprometidos.
Pero las personas sanas (asintomáticas) NO necesitan usar mascarillas. Punto.

Los medios de comunicación y los funcionarios del gobierno han perforado en nuestras cabezas que las mascarillas salvan vidas. Esto no está 100% basado en la ciencia y es una declaración muy peligrosa porque hace que los no la llevan sean una amenaza para la salud pública.

"No usas una mascarilla, eres un asesino". Y esta división tiene que parar.
¿Más vale prevenir que lamentar? No, no creo en eso debido a los riesgos potenciales para la salud (especialmente mentales y emocionales) asociados con su uso.

PRIMERO: De la Revista de Medicina de Nueva Inglaterra "Sabemos que usar una mascarilla fuera de las instalaciones de atención médica ofrece poca protección, si es que hay alguna, contra la infección [COVID-19]".https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372...

SEGUNDO: El 100% de todas las mascarillas caseras son completamente inútiles y hacen más daño que bien. La boca y la nariz deben protegerse sin posibilidad de que entren partículas en el aire por los pliegues, lo que es imposible a través de mascarillas de tela hechas en casa y compradas en la tienda. Las máscaras quirúrgicas tampoco son la respuesta al COVID-19. Lo único que puede ayudar son las N95.

TERCERO: se ha demostrado que todas las máscaras que no son N95, NO evitan la propagación del virus que se propagan a través de aerosoles (es decir, COVID-19 porque el virus es demasiado pequeño y la máscara debe ser prácticamente hermética e impermeable a las partículas microscópicas).
¿Pero qué hay de las personas en los hospitales? Si los usan médicos y enfermeras, ¿no deberíamos?

Masks

There's a bunch of confusion out there about masks, and they have become the official COVID battleground as more states, countries, schools, places or work, stores and etc MANDATE them.

The REAL issue here is whether or not HEALTHY people should wear masks.

--> If someone is sick, then wear one. Sure, I can agree with that for cancer & immune-compromised patients.
--> But healthy (asymptomatic) people do NOT need to wear masks. Period.

The media & government officials have drilled into our heads that masks save lives. This is 100% not founded on science and it's a very dangerous statement because it makes non-wearers a public health threat.

"Don't wear a mask - you're a killer." And this divisiveness needs to stop.

Better be safe than sorry? Nope, I don't buy into that because of the potential health risks (especially mental and emotional) associated with wearing them.

FIRST: From the New England Journal of Medicine "We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from [COVID-19]infection." --> https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372

SECOND: 100% of all homemade masks are completely useless and do more harm than good. The mouth and nose need to be protected with no possibility of airborne particles entering from creases, which is impossible via a homemade and store-bought cloth masks. Surgical masks are not the answer to COVID-19 either. The only thing that can possibly help are N95s.

THIRD: It's been beyond proven that all non-N95 masks do NOT prevent the spread of viruses that spread via aerosols (i.e. COVID-19 because the virus is too small and the mask needs to be virtually airtight and impermeable to microscopic particles).

But what about people in hospitals? If doctors and nurses wear them, shouldn't we?

FOURTH: We need to clarify that "face masks, as they are used today in health care setting, can be largely traced back historically to a more recent period when a new understanding of contagion based on germ theory was applied to SURGERY. --> https://www.thelancet.com/…/PIIS0140-6736(20)31207…/fulltext

Temer o No Temer

 El miedo parece estar gobernando a muchas personas en estos días. Esto probablemente siempre ha sido el caso, pero parece más evidente ahora. Ya sea por miedo a ese diminuto Coronavirus19 o por miedo a un pánico que podría emitir en un curso irreversible al socialismo en toda regla, ¡EL MIEDO está a la orden del día!
Pero por qué el miedo en cualquier caso. Sostengo que tenemos miedo porque nuestros horizontes se limitan a lo que nosotros podemos ver y lo que creemos que podemos manejar. Pero para los seguidores de Cristo este nunca ha sido el caso. Nosotros no estamos limitados a nuestros horizontes finitos sino que recurrimos a un Dios soberano ¡que nos ama! Seguirlo a El es confiar no solo el perdón de nuestros pecados sino ¡también nuestras VIDAS! Estar vivo en su reino es estar tan vivo como Adán estuvo antes de su decisión de tomar el asunto en sus propias manos. Es estar vivo BAJO Dios y así ser verdaderamente libre para vivir la vida al máximo. La base de nuestra preocupación se ha ido.
¿Significa eso que no luchamos contra este bicho viral o contra el alcance excesivo de los gobiernos en su esfuerzo por "amarnos" y mantenernos a salvo porque están tratando de hacer lo que solo Dios puede hacer? Por supuesto que no, le damos nuestros mejores esfuerzos, ¡pero no confiamos en nuestros mejores esfuerzos! ¡Confiamos en el Dios a quien pertenecemos!
El salmista dice: "Aunque ande en valle de sombra de muerte (y vamos a andar), no temeré mal alguno "... ¿por qué? ..."¡porque tú (Jesús) estarás conmigo! " ¿Quién es Jesús? El es Dios quien se convirtió en un hombre y vivió una vida de verdadera tentación y sufrimiento ... como todos nosotros ... pero enseñó y predicó sobre un tipo diferente de reino ... un reino donde la voluntad efectiva de Dios (no la nuestra) es hecha ... donde el amor triunfa sobre el odio; la bendición sobre la venganza; la justicia sobre la injusticia; un reino potenciado no por nuestra carne sino por su Espíritu (ver Mateo 5-7). Es un reino cuya efectividad Él demostró al morir y luego volver a la vida ¡en gloria! Es un reino donde nuestros pecados son perdonados. y Dios está trabajando, y estamos habilitados para unirnos a Él en ese trabajo. Es un reino sin miedo, odio o preocupación, pero es un reino que tú debes elegir entrar. ¡La única barrera son tus propios deseos!¡O bien es tu reino o el suyo! ¿Cómo te ha funcionado tu reino hasta ahora?
Alguien mucho más importante que yo dijo una vez que "lo único que debemos temer es el miedo mismo". Tenía razón, el temor de pánico engendrado puede ser ¡peor que el objeto del miedo! Hay razones genuinas para temer! Pero si JESÚS te respalda ... bueno, esas razones parecen evaporarse.
Hay un guión de una vieja película del oeste donde alguien da este sabio consejo cuando se trata de nuestros problemas y preocupaciones: "Bebe profundo y cabalga fuerte, y no mires por encima del horizonte. Eso es asunto del Señor ". Me gusta el guión pero no parece adecuado. No tenemos que mirar por encima del horizonte porque el Señor del horizonte está bebiendo profundo y cabalgando fuerte ¡justo a nuestro lado! Nuestra única preocupación es que estemos dejando que¡ Él tome la delantera y cabalgar en su dirección y en su poder! Su caballo no se cansa, su dirección es verdadera
y el destino está garantizado ... ¡independientemente de la oposición!

To Fear or Not to Fear

Fear seems to be governing many people these days. This has probably always been the case but it
seems more evident now. Whether it is fear of that tiny little Coronavirus19 or fear of a Panpanic
that could issue in an irreversible course to full-blown socialism, FEAR is the order of the day!
But why the fear in either case. I submit that we are afraid because our horizons are limited to what we can see and what we think we can manage. But for followers of Christ this has never been the case. We are not limited to our finite horizons but have recourse to a sovereign God who loves us! To follow Him is to entrust to Him not only the forgiveness of our sins but our LIVES as well! To be alive in His kingdom is to be as alive as Adam was before his decision to take matters into his own hands. It is to be alive UNDER God and thus to be truly free to live life to the fullest. The base for our worry is gone. Does that mean we do not fight against this viral varmint or against the governments over-reach in their effort to “love” us and o keep us safe because they are trying to do what only God can do? Of course not, we give it our best efforts but we don’t trust our best efforts! We trust the God to whom we belong!
The Psalmist says, “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (and we WILL so
walk), I will fear no evil”….why?.. “because Thou (Jesus) art with me!” Who is Jesus? He is God who became a man and lived a life of real temptation and suffering…just like all of us…but taught and preached about a different sort of Kingdom…a Kingdom where God’s (not ours) effective will is being done…where love triumphs over hate; blessing over vengeance; justice over injustice; a Kingdom empowered not by our flesh but by His Spirit (see Matt. 5-7). It is a Kingdom whose effectiveness He demonstrated by dying and then returning to life in glory! It is a Kingdom where our sins are forgiven and God is working, and we are enabled to join Him in that work. It is a kingdom without fear, hate or worry, but it is a Kingdom you must choose to enter. The only barrier is your own desires! It is either your kingdom or His! How has your kingdom worked out for you so far?
Someone much more important than me once said that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
He had a point, the panic fear engenders can be worse than the object of the fear! There are genuine
reasons to fear! But if JESUS has your back….well, those reasons just seem to evaporate.
There is a line in an old western where someone gives this sage advice when it comes to our troubles
and worries, “Drink deep and ride hard, and don’t look over the horizon. That’s the Lord’s business.” I like the line but it doesn’t seem adequate. We don’t have to look over the horizon because the Lord of the horizon is drinking deep and riding hard right beside us! Our only concern is that we are letting
Him take the lead and riding in His direction & in His power! His horses don’t tire, His direction is true and the destination is guaranteed….regardless of the opposition!

EL TEMOR A LA LIBERTAD (English)

   Uno de los temores más grandes del siglo XX es de la libertad. La libertad es honrada en nombre pero no en realidad. El hombre moderno de hoy quiere, lo que el Dr. Elgin Groseclose ha denominado acertadamente la sociedad sin riesgo, una sociedad en la que el fracaso es imposible, la pobreza y los problemas son abolidos, y la causalidad y las consecuencias nunca prevalecen.
   En los juicios de las Escuelas Cristianas y las iglesias en las que soy con regularidad un testigo judicial, encuentro eso implícito en la posición de los funcionarios estatales y federales, es la creencia de que la sociedad no regulada es capaz de producir sólo caos. Un escenario imaginario se cita a menudo en la  conversación sobre los abusos que podrían resultar.
   ¿Cuál es la respuesta a esa pregunta? Muy simple, es cierto que los abusos pueden suceder. En un estado, donde un gran número de escuelas en casa existen, una familia hizo poco para educar a sus dos hijos. Sin embargo, todas las otras escuelas en casa están produciendo estudiantes superiores hasta muy superiores, mientras que, dado el mismo número de niños en una toma de muestras de la escuela pública, los resultados son generalmente muy malos, y la tasa del analfabetismo creciente. Igualmente, he encontrado colegios cristianos débiles, pero, en comparación con las escuelas estatales, los colegios cristianos son considerablemente superiores.
   Está claro que la libertad de enseñanza ha producido la superioridad en las escuelas cristianas, mientras que la regulación ha llevado a la inferioridad y la incompetencia en las escuelas estatales. Por otra parte, como los reglamentos han aumentado, la calidad ha disminuido.
   En la búsqueda de una respuesta libre de problemas, los estatistas han dependido en reglamentos, y éstas sólo han aumentado los problemas. Lo mismo se aplica a otros ámbitos, incluyendo el económico.
   ... Los reguladores por lo tanto ven el desastre cuando los precios suben, y el desastre, cuando los precios bajan. De hecho, sólo ven el desastre, donde prevalece el mercado libre. Su confianza sólo está en sus propios reglamentos.
   Ellos tienen un temor religioso de la libertad. Una filosofía o fe, que ve al Estado como dios temerá a cualquiera y todas las disminuciones del poder del estado de controlar y regular. Temerá a la libertad como el camino obvio al infierno.
   Aquellos, sin embargo, que creen que esta es la creación de Dios, y que la libertad permite las leyes ordenadas por Dios para cada ámbito a prevalecer más fácilmente, darán la bienvenida a la libertad y al cambio como necesarios para el progreso y como la defensa más segura contra la tiranía del hombre.
   Donde el hombre juega a ser dios y trata de predestinar todo y cada ámbito en términos de su propio consejo y plan, el desastre sobreviene. El plan del hombre va en contra del plan de Dios, y sólo la orden de Dios puede prevalecer.
   El mundo se está moviendo en la mayor crisis económica de la historia. Es una crisis religiosa, el producto de los esfuerzos del hombre de jugar a ser dios y controlar todas las cosas. Para el hombre humanista, la libertad es anatema, porque va en contra de la planificación científica y el control. La crisis creciente es, pues, de carácter religioso, y debemos ver esto como el juicio de Dios sobre una orden falsa y rival. La crisis debe ser vista como buenas noticias, como evidencia de que Dios está en guerra, que la paga del pecado en cualquier ámbito siempre es la muerte, y que cada torre de Babel que el hombre erige tiene un destino común, el desastre y la confusión. El Señor está trabajando, dejar que el pueblo se regocije.

THE FEAR OF FREEDOM

   One of the great fears of the twentieth century is of freedom. Freedom is honored in name but not in fact. Modern man today wants what Dr. Elgin Groseclose has so aptly termed the riskless society, a society in which failure is impossible,poverty and problems are abolished, and causality and consequences never prevail.
   In the trials of Christian Schools and churches at which I am regularly a court witness, I find that implicit in the position of state and federal officials is the belief that the unregulated society is capable of producing only chaos. An imaginary scenario is often cited in conversation about the abuses which could ensue.
   What is the answer to that question? Very simply, it is true that abuses can ensue. In one state, where a large number of home schools exist, one family has done little to educate their two children. However, all other home schools are producing superior to very superior students, whereas, given the same number of children in a public school sampling, the results are usually very bad, and the illiteracy rate growing. Likewise, I have encountered weak Christian schools, but, compared to the state schools, the Christian schools are dramatically superior.
   Clearly, educational freedom has produced superiority in the Christian schools, whereas regulation has led to inferiority and incompetence in the state schools. Moreover, as the regulations have increased, the quality has decreased.
   In striving for a problem-free answer, the statists have relied on regulations, and these have only increased the problems. The same applies to other realms, including the economic.
   ...The regulators thus see disaster when prices go up, and disaster when prices go down. In fact, they see only disaster  where the free market prevails. Their only confidence is in their own regulations.
   They have a religious fear of freedom. A philosophy or faith which sees the state as god will fear any and all diminutions of the state's controlling and regulating power. It will fear freedom as the obvious road to hell.
   Those , however, who belief that this is God's creation, and that freedom allows God's ordained laws for every realm to prevail more readily, will welcome freedom and change as necessary to progress and as the surest defense against the tyranny of man.
   Where man plays god and seeks to predestine each and every realm in terms of his own counsel and plan, disaster ensues. Man's plan runs counter to God's plan, and only God's order can prevail.
   The world is moving into the greatest economic crisis of history. It is a religious crisis, the product of man's efforts to play god  and to control all things. For humanistic man, freedom is anathema, because it runs counter to scientific planning and control. The growing crisis is thus a religious one, and we must  see it as God's judgment on a false and rival order. The crisis must be seen as good news, as evidence that God is at war, that the wages of sin in any sphere are always death, and that every tower of Babel man erects has a common destiny, disaster and confusion. The Lord is at work; let the people rejoice.

Seguro o Apenado (English)

"Con la llegada de otro año mis pensamientos en general, se tornan de las alegres celebraciones de la Navidad y el Año Nuevo a sobrevivir 'el Tiempo Frío.' Al no ser un fanático de la pesca en el hielo o ser propietario de una moto de nieve o permitirme viajar a varios paraísos de invierno de los Estados Unidos, yo debo contentarme más con asuntos domésticos. El pensamiento es generalmente barato y se puede hacer desde la calidez del hogar de uno.

En respuesta a este renovado interés en traer consigo armas de fuego en público, algunas empresas han adoptado por poner anuncios prohibiéndolos llevar armas de fuego en sus tiendas. Ahora no tengo ningún problema con esto, en la medida en que una empresa tiene el derecho de llevar a cabo sus asuntos de la manera que mejor sirva a sus intereses. Lo que no entiendo es por qué ellos podrían pensar que no tener armas de fuego en su tienda contribuiría a mantener seguros a sus clientes y empleados. 

Es cierto que ahora la ley otorga a un ciudadano responsable un acceso más fácil de llevar legalmente armas de fuego. Pero todavía sigue siendo bastante ilegal asesinar a alguien o robarles o incluso amenazarles. ¡La única gente probablemente de consentir a NO llevar un arma dentro de una tienda que les prohíbe son las mismas personas que yo creo te gustaría que tenga una! Después de todo, el asesino o ladrón, de repente, no llega a ser un observante de la ley cuando ve un letrero en la ventana que le prohíbe la entrada de las herramientas de su oficio. Además, no es solamente que la presencia de un poseedor respetuoso de un arma de fuego está en condiciones de detener al asesino o al menos limitar su impacto (tan importante como es), es que tal letrero parecería atraer a los criminales, contrario a las intenciones de uno. Después de todo, sólo porque los criminales son moralmente desquiciados no los hace irracionales. Si dos tiendas tienen la misma cantidad de bienes y una está llena de gente con armas de fuego y la otra no, ¿cuál elegirías tú robar? ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que escuchaste a alguien robar a una estación de policía de su arsenal? Las escuelas han tenido las políticas de 'no armas de fuego' desde hace un tiempo, pero lamentablemente estas no han estado 'libres de asesinato'. 

Tal vez esta política de 'no armas de fuego' debe ser revisada, sobre todo si estamos realmente interesados en la seguridad de quienes buscamos servir. Yo creo que mejor sirviría a los fines de proveer la seguridad de los demás poniendo un letrero en la puerta que diga 'Bienvenidas las armas de fuego,' o tal vez, '¡Prohibidas Todas las Armas de Fuego - salvo la MIA!' En mi vida he encontrado que el mantenimiento de un 'perfil bajo' ha tenido ciertas ventajas. Quizá 'no saber' resultaría adecuado; por lo menos más que una invitación abierta."

Safe or Sorry

With the advent of another year my thoughts generally turn from the merry-making of Christmas and the New Year to surviving “the Cold Time.”  Not being a great fan of ice fishing or owning a snowmobile or affording to travel to America’s various winter wonderlands I must content myself with more domestic affairs.  Thinking is generally cheap and can be done from the warmth of ones home.

Recently I have been pondering the logic of certain businesses in Iowa who, in an effort to make their employees and customers “safe”, have taken to posting signs in their windows banning anyone from carrying firearms into their stores.  The impetus for such action is not a sudden rise in violent crime in Iowa or even an increase in the number of media reports of such events (although the case in Tucson has surely had an impact).  Rather it seems that this concern has issued from a change in Iowa’s gun laws which took effect this year.  Before, if someone wanted to get a permit to carry a firearm the decision was entirely up to the subjective opinion of whoever currently held the office of Sheriff in that person’s county.  The ease or difficulty of getting a permit varied considerably from county to county. But with the turn of the year, a sheriff cannot refuse an applicant a permit to carry a firearm except for several clearly defined reasons. 

Evidently many Iowans are taking advantage of this new law and applying for permits to carry.  In response to this renewed interest in carrying firearms in public, certain businesses have taken to posting signs prohibiting them from carrying firearms into their stores. Now I have no problem with this in so far as a business has the right to conduct its affairs in the way that best serves their interests. What I don’t understand is why they would think that having no firearms in their store would contribute to keeping their customers and employees safe. 

It is true that the law now grants a responsible citizen easier access to legally carry firearms.  But it still remains quite illegal to murder someone or to rob them or even to threaten them.  The only people likely to consent to NOT carrying a weapon into a store which prohibits them are the very people I would think you would want to have one!  After all, the murderer or thief doesn’t all of a sudden become law-abiding when he sees a sign in the window that prohibits him from entering with the tools of his trade.  Further, it’s not just that the presence of a law-abiding possessor of a firearm is in a position to stop the murderer or at least limit his impact (as significant as that is), it’s that such a sign would seem to attract criminals, contrary to ones intent.  After all, just because criminals are morally deranged doesn’t make them irrational.  If two stores have the same amount of goods and one is populated with people with firearms and one is not, which would you choose to rob?  When’s the last time you heard of anyone robbing a police station of their arsenal?  Schools have had “no firearms” policies for quite a while but they have sadly not been “murder free.” 

Perhaps this “No Firearms” policy should be re-visited, especially if we are really interested in the safety of those we seek to serve.  I would think it would better serve the purposes of providing security for others by putting a sign on the door which says “Firearms Welcome,” or perhaps, “All Firearms Prohibited – except MINE!”  In my own life I’ve found that keeping a “low profile” has had certain advantages.  Perhaps “not knowing” would prove adequate; at least more so than an open invitation.

¿Qué es la Libertad? (English)

                          ¿Qué es la Libertad?

  La libertad y los derechos han sido temas candentes en esta temporada electoral. Día del impuesto, las fiestas del té se lamentan de la pérdida de la libertad. Grupos advierten de la infracción del gobierno en nuestras libertades. Varios grupos parecen pensar de ella de diferentes maneras. Me parece que hay dos definiciones populares principales. Una dice que la libertad son las drogas, el sexo y el rock and roll. Otra dice que la libertad es impuestos más bajos y menos regulación. Yo diría que ambas están equivocadas. Para entender la libertad hay que entender lo que significa ser un ser humano. Dios nos creó. Fuimos creados buenos, pero nuestros primeros padres pecaron, y sin falla recibimos esta naturaleza de pecado cómo nuestra primera herencia de nuestros padres. Esta herencia nos deja esclavos. Somos esclavos del pecado y eso conduce a la muerte y a la destrucción de nosotros mismos y de los que nos rodean. La buena noticia es que Dios no nos dejó en este estado. Él envió a su Hijo a morir por los pecados de todos aquellos que confían en él. A pesar de que todavía luchamos con el pecado ya no somos esclavos de él. ¡Somos libres de ser libres! La libertad es evitar la muerte y la destrucción causada por el pecado, de vivir cómo fuimos hechos para vivir. Se nos dice cómo fuimos hechos para vivir en la palabra de Dios y especialmente en su ley. Cuando escuchamos "ley" no pensamos en la libertad. Esto se debe a que estamos pensando en la ley del hombre o deseamos hacer cosas que conduzcan a la muerte y la destrucción. El punto es que la libertad viene de Dios y de ninguna otra parte. Cuando exigimos a nuestro gobierno que nos dé nuestros derechos y libertades ya hemos perdido la batalla. Los hemos hecho dios y ellos tratarán de serlo. Dios nos ha dicho cuales son nuestras responsabilidades  individuales, de familia, iglesia y del estado. Si leeríamos la palabra de Dios encontraríamos que las iglesias y las familias deben estar a cargo de la asistencia social y del cuidado de la salud. Encontraríamos que las familias y los individuos son responsables de las finanzas y de la educación. Cuando le pedimos al gobierno a ser nuestro pastor, padre, y conciencia ellos toman el lugar de nuestro Padre Celestial, Buen Pastor, y  Espíritu Santo. Así que si usted está sorprendido por la política de la salud, el matrimonio sodomita, el aborto o cualquier otra cosa, ¡no se desespere! La solución es simple y se inicia en sus propios hogares e iglesias. Arrepentíos y vivid de acuerdo con la voluntad de Dios expresada en su Palabra. ¡Arrepiéntanse y vivan  libres! 2 Crónicas 7:14

Dear Editor-

What is Freedom?

   Freedom and rights have been hot topics this election season. Tax day tea parties bemoan the loss of freedom. Groups warn of government infringement on our freedoms. Various groups seem to think of it different ways. It seems to me that there are two main popular definitions. One says freedom is drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Another says freedom is lower taxes and less regulation. I would say that both of these are wrong. To understand freedom we must understand what it means to be a human being. God created us. We were created good, but our first parents sinned and without fail we receive this sin nature as our first inheritance from our parents. This inheritance leaves us slaves. We are slaves to sin and that leads to death and destruction of ourselves and those around us. The good news is that God did not leave us in this state. He sent his Son to die for the sins of all those that trust in him. While we still struggle with sin we are no longer in bondage to it. We are free to be free! Freedom is avoiding the death and destruction brought by sin by living as we were made to live. We are told how we were made to live in God's word and especially in his law. When we hear "law" we do not think freedom. That is because we are either thinking of man's law or we desire to do things that will lead to our death and destruction. The point is that freedom comes from God and nowhere else. When we demand our government to give us our rights and freedoms we have already lost the battle. We have made them god and they will try to be. God has told us what our individual, family, church, and state responsibilities are. Were we to read God's word we would find that churches and families should be in charge of welfare and health care. We would find that families and individuals are responsible for finance and education. When we ask the government to be our pastor, father, and conscience they take the place of our Heavenly Father, Good Shepherd, and Holy Spirit. So if you are taken aback by healthcare policy, sodomite marriage, abortion or anything else, do not despair! The solution is simple and it starts in your own homes and churches. Repent and live in accordance with God's will as expressed in His word. Repent and live free! 2^nd  Chronicles 7:14
