Salmo 23

Jehová es mi pastor.

En otras palabras, estoy bajo el cuidado de otra persona. No soy yo el que está a cargo. Tomé mi reino y lo entregué al reino de Dios. Estoy viviendo la vida con Dios. Jehová  es mi pastor. ¿Y que sigue de eso?

Nada me faltará.

Ese es el resultado natural. No me faltará nada. Eso es lo que Jesús enseña: "Buscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia", y todo lo demás será añadido (Mateo 6:33).

En lugares de delicados pastos me hará  descansar. 

¿Qué tipo de oveja se acuesta en delicados pastos? Una oveja que ha comido hasta llenarse. Si una oveja está en delicados pastos y no está llena, estará comiendo, y no descansando.

Junto a aguas de reposo me pastoreará.

Una oveja que está siendo guiada junto a aguas tranquilas es una oveja que no tiene sed. Jesús dijo a la mujer en el pozo: "Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua, volverá a tener sed; mas el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré, no tendrá  sed jamás; sino que el agua que yo le dare será en él una fuente de agua que salte para vida eterna" (Juan 4:13-14).

Confortará  mi alma.

Las profundidades rotas de mi alma son sanadas y reintegradas en una vida en unión con Dios: el tipo de vida eterna.

Me guiará por sendas de justicia por amor de su nombre.

El efecto de la restauración de mi alma es que ando por sendas de justicia en su nombre como una expresión natural de mi renovada naturaleza interna. Mientras ando por estas sendas, mi confianza en el Pastor es tan profunda que puedo declarar:

Aunque ande en valle de sombra de muerte, no temeré mal alguno.

Una vida sin carencia es una que no teme al mal. Nuestra confianza en Dios se eleva muy por encima de los deseos y temores. ¿Te gustaría tener una vida sin temor, una vida de gran fe? Parece que Jesús decía constantemente a sus amigos: "¡No temáis! ¡No temáis!" Imaginate cómo sería eso. Sin temor a la vida, el envejecimiento o la muerte, la enfermedad o el hambre, sin temor a ninguna persona o criatura, ni siquiera la pérdida de todas tus posesiones. Tu puedes vivir sin temor incluso en medio de un mundo dominado por el miedo.
Fácilmente podría haber elegido "no temer al mal" como el tema de este libro, porque estamos hablando de una vida de la cual el temor es eliminado. Mientras que el salmista sabe claramente sobre los peligros de la vida, el todavía puede decir: "No temeré mal alguno". ¿Por qué? Por favor, lee su respuesta en voz alta:

Tanto es así que la abundancia de la provisión de Dios suena desde la pluma del salmista:

¡Mi copa está llena!

 ¿Es eso lo que dice? No. "Mi copa está rebosando". Tengo más de lo que mi copa aguantará. Tanto que puedo ser tan generoso como mi Pastor sin miedo a que se me acabe. Tanto es así que estoy convencido:

Ciertamente el bien y la misericordia me seguirán todos los días de mi vida, y en la casa de Jehová moraré por largos dias.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd.

In other words, I'm in the care of someone else. I'm not the one in charge. I've taken my kingdom and surrendered it to the kingdom of God. I am living the with-God life. The Lord is my shepherd. And what follows from that?

I shall not want.

That's the natural result. I shall not lack anything. That's what Jesus teaches: "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness," and everything else will be added (Matt. 6:33).

He makes me to lie down in green pastures.

What kind of sheep lies down in a green pasture? A sheep that has eaten its fill. If a sheep is in a green pasture and she's not full, she'll be eating, not lying down.

He leads me beside the still waters.

A sheep that is being led beside still water is a sheep that is not thirsty. Jesus said to the woman at the well, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, what whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13:14).

He restores my soul.

The broken depths of my soul are healed and reintegrated in a life in union with God: the eternal kind of life.

He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

The effect of the restauration of my soul is that I walk in paths of righteousness on his behalf as a natural expression of my renewed inner nature. As I walk these paths, my trust in the Shepherd runs so deep that I can declare:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

 A life without lack is one that carries no fear of evil. Our confidence in God soars far above wants and fears. Would you like to have a life without fear, a life of soaring faith? It seems like Jesus was constantly saying to his friends, "Fear not! Fear not!" Imaging what that would be like. No fear of life, aging or death, disease or hunger, no fear of any person or creature, nor even the loss of all your possessions. You can live without fear even in the midst of a world dominated by fear.
I could easily have chosen "fear no evil" as this book's theme, because we are talking about a life from which fear is eliminated. While the psalmist clearly knows about life's dangers, he can still say, " I will fear no evil." Why? Please read his answer out loud:

For You are with me.

The central truth of this book is that the complete sufficiency of the life without lack is based is based upon the presence of God, and he is most clearly and fully present to us in Jesus Christ, Immanuel, God with us.

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

I know from experience that the rod and staff represent the Shepherd's strength and protective care. In this safe place where I have no fear, I am at liberty to enjoy the overwhelming generosity of my Shepherd.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Since I love my enemies, (Jesus instructs us to do this in Mathew 5:43-47) I would not feast upon a delicious meal in their presence and let them stand there hungry. The abundance of God's provision and safety in my life is so great, I would invite them to enjoy what God has prepared for me.

You anoint my head with oil.

Here you might think in terms of hot showers and warm fluffy towels, things that make us feel clean, comfortable, and special, and how God makes that possible. He is not only interested in my having something wonderful to eat, but also in blessing me with a life that is full and free and powerful in him_ including clothing, comfortable furnishings, joyful experiences, and deep relationships. So much so that the abundance of God's provision rings out from the psalmist's pen:

My cup is full!

Is that what it says? No. "My cup runs over." I have more than my cup will hold. so much that I can be as generous as my Shepherd without fear of ever running out. So much so that I am convinced:

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a description of the eternal life available to us now in the kingdom of the heavens; the abundant with-God life that comes from following the Shepherd, where we dwell and abide with God in the fullness of his life_ a life in which all the promises of Christ's gospel are realized. Because of this we have no reason to be anxious (Phil. 4:6-7); the world is a perfectly safe place for us to be.

El Arrepentimiento

"Examíname, oh Dios, y conoce mi corazón ... Y ve si hay en mí camino de perversidad, y guíame en el camino eterno." (Salmo 139:23-24) "Si confesamos nuestros pecados, él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad." (1 Juan 1:9). "Pero si andamos en luz, como él está en luz, tenemos comunión unos con otros, y la sangre de Jesucristo su Hijo nos limpia de todo pecado" (1 Juan 1:7)

Después de haberte abierto en una entrega, pide al Espíritu Santo de Dios que examine tu corazón y te muestre cualquier cosa que necesita ser cambiada. Como Él te convence de pecado, no racionalices. No importa lo trivial que pueda parecerte, inmediatamente confiésalo, recibe la purificación de la sangre de Cristo y determina hacer cualquier confesión o restitución que sea necesaria a otros. La siguiente oración podría ayudarte a empezar:

Repentance

"Search me, O God, and know my heart... And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24) "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7)

Having open yourself in surrender, ask God's Holy Spirit to search your heart and to show you of anything that needs to be changed. As He convicts you of sin, do not rationalize. No matter how trivial it may appear to you, immediately confess it, receive the cleansing of Christ's blood and determine to make any confessions or restitution to others that are needed. The following prayer could get you started:

                                 Sample Prayer of Repentance

   Heavenly Father, I ask Your forgiveness for all the ways I have offended You, knowingly or unknowingly. I have sinned in thought, motive, word and deed. I have sinned in what I have done and in what I have failed to do. I come before You to ask You to give me a repentant heart. You know my inmost secrets. I open my heart to You and ask that You would search it, and show me all that You want me to confess today...[wait for the Lord to do His searching. Then confess them as they are revealed. If nothing immediately comes to mind, begin praying what parts of the following are relevant:]

   ... I ask forgiveness for sins against purity:roving eyes, sexual fantasies and especially __________ . I turn away from all those activities and turn to You. I deeply repent of having ______________ .

   I repent of any compulsive behavior: over drinking, drugs, gambling, over-preoccupation with sex, food and especially ____________. Thank you, Father, for setting me free.

   I repent of not taking care of my physical and emotional health; for lack of balance in nutrition, rest and exercise. I make a commitment to care of myself today.

   I repent of times that I have hurt other people. I ask You to forgive me for my lack of affirming of others, brushing people off, coldness, unloving and inconsiderate behavior. I repent of having lied by stretching the truth, defrauding or deliberately deceiving. I repent of stealing. La Oración

  

En su último viaje a América, Colón cayó gravemente enfermo en un momento de gran peligro y posible motín. Enormemente agotado, y en cama con fiebre alta, no sólo estaba débil en cuerpo sino en espíritu también.

    En su diario, escribió de sí mismo, "Pides ayuda, con la duda en tu corazón. Pregúntate a ti mismo quién te ha afligido tan gravemente y tan a menudo: ¿Dios o el mundo? Los privilegios y los pactos que Dios concede no son devueltos por Él. Ni Él dice a los que le han servido, que quiso decir lo contrario, o que debería ser tomado en otro sentido; ni Él inflige tormentos para mostrar su poder. Todo lo que Él promete lo cumple con aumento, pues tales son sus caminos."

    Colón, un hombre superior de lejos que la mayoría de los hombres se dan cuenta, estaba en lo cierto. Sus problemas venían de los hombres, no de Dios, y uno de esos hombres era el mismo Colón. Algunos de sus graves problemas eran producto de sus propios errores. Colón se dio cuenta de esto, en parte, y escribió: "Entrégate a Él, y reconoce tus pecados. Su misericordia es infinita."

    Al principio, en su pecado y enfermedad, Colón había pedido a Dios que cambie. Mientras oraba, se dio cuenta en cambio, que era él quien debe cambiar, no Dios, y los hombres que deben ser transformados, y no los propósito y los caminos de Dios.

    Tal vez el problema de Colón es el nuestro también. Estamos consternados de cómo están las cosas, y por el gobierno de Dios del universo. Puede que no seamos del todo honestos al respecto, pero en gran parte de nuestra oración, estamos pidiendo a Dios que cambie, de modo que podamos seguir siendo como somos, a nuestra manera en nuestras esperanzas y planes.

    Muy rara vez se nos ocurre que no es Dios quien necesita un reacondicionamiento y reconstrucción, sino nosotros mismos. El punto excesivo de nuestra oración, es que queremos que Dios y las cosas cambien para complacernos, y no que nosotros mismos cambiemos para complacer a Dios.

    David oró, en la crisis de su vida, "Crea en mí, oh Dios, un corazón limpio, y renueva un espíritu recto dentro de mí" (Sal. 51:10). ¿Se necesitará un horror y pena similar para hacernos orar de la misma manera, y decirlo en serio?

    Necesitamos cambiar continuamente, pero así como continuamente queremos que Dios cambie, y no nosotros. Pero recuerda, cuando ores, estás obligado a complacer a Dios al creer en Él y mediante una obediencia activa a Él. Por otra parte, siempre debemos recordar que el mayor regalo de Dios para nosotros no está en las cosas, sino en su gracia tal como se manifiesta en Jesucristo.

    Entre otras cosas, la oración enfáticamente significa venir a Dios para ser cambiado por Él, y saber en donde necesitamos cambiar. La confesión es una parte de la oración por esta razón. Nos recuerda que necesitamos la gracia y el poder transformador de Dios.

Prayer

  On his last voyage to America, Columbus fell seriously ill at a time of great danger and possible mutiny. Greatly exhausted, and down with high fever, he was not only weak in body but in spirit also.
   In his journal, he wrote of himself, " Thou criest for help, with doubt in thy heart. Ask thyself who has afflicted thee so grievously and so often; God or the world? The privileges and covenants which God giveth are not taken back by Him. Nor does He say to them that have served Him that He meant it otherwise, or that it should be taken in another sense; nor does He inflict torments to show His power. Whatever He promises He fulfils with increase; for such are His ways." 
   Columbus, a greater man by far than most men realize, was right. His troubles came from men, not from God, and one of those men was Columbus himself. Some of his most serious problems were a product of his own errors. Columbus realized this in part and wrote, "Turn thyself to Him, and acknowledge thy sins. His mercy is infinite."
   At first, in his sin and illness, Columbus had asked God to change. As he prayed, he came to realize that instead it was he who must change, not God, and men who must be transformed, not God's purposes and ways.
   Perhaps Columbus' problem is ours also. We are distressed at the way things are, and at God's government of the universe. We may not be altogether honest about it, but in much of our praying, we are asking God to change so that we can remain as we are, to have our way in our hopes and plans.
   It too seldom occurs to us that it is not God who needs an overhauling and remaking but we ourselves. The point of too much of our praying is that we want things and God to change to please us, not we ourselves changed to please God.
   David prayed, in the crisis of his life, "Create in me a clean heart , O God; and renew a right spirit within me" (Ps. 51:10). Will it take a similar horror and grief to make us pray the same way, and mean it?
   We need changing continually, but just as continuously we want God to change, not us. But remember, when you pray, that you are required to please God by believing in Him and by an active obedience to Him. Moreover, we should always remember that God's greatest gift to us is not in things but in His grace as manifested in Jesus Christ.
   Among other things, prayer emphatically means coming to God to be changed by Him, and to know wherein we need changing. Confession is a part of prayer for this reason. It reminds us that we need God's transforming grace and power.
   What are you praying about?

Entrégate al Señor

"Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre vosotros, e inclinad vuestro corazón a Jehová, Dios de Israel." (Jos. 24:23) "No endurezcáis, pues, ahora vuestra cerviz, como vuestros padres; someteos a Jehová ..." (2 Crónicas 30:8) "... obedeceremos mucho mejor al Padre ..." (Heb. 12: 9) "Someteos, pues a Dios." (Santiago 4:7) "No sea como yo quiero, sino como tú." (Mt. 26:39) "no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió, la del Padre" (Juan 5:30)

  Si deseas que Dios te guíe y te use, debes estar dispuesto a seguirle incluso antes de saber lo que podría pedir. Dios no contesta las oraciones de las personas de doble ánimo que tienen reservas mentales o son inconstantes con Él (Santiago 1:6-8). Entregarse a Dios asume que tú confias que te ama y hace el bien; asume que tú crees que su voluntad para ti es buena, aceptable y perfecta (Ro. 12:1-2). Dile al Señor que no vas a buscar tu propia voluntad el día de hoy, pero te rendirás por completo a él. La siguiente oración se puede usar:

                                 Ejemplo de Oración de Entrega

    Padre, me rindo a Ti hoy día con todo mi corazón y alma. Señor Jesús, Tú eres el Señor de toda mi vida. Querido Espíritu Santo, yo abro todos los lugares secretos de mi corazón a Ti.

    Oh Dios, no voy a contener nada. Ofrezco mi cuerpo como un sacrificio vivo para ser usado en su totalidad por Ti hoy. Todo lo que tengo es tuyo: mi salud, mi tiempo, mi familia, mis éxitos, mis fracasos, mis relaciones, mi ocupación, mis momentos de descanso y de trabajo. Yo suelto estas cosas y las dejo ir. Tú me has dado todo a mí. A ti, oh Señor, te lo devuelvo. Todo es Tuyo. Dispone de ello en su totalidad de acuerdo a Tu voluntad. Dame Tu amor y Tu gracia, porque ésto es suficiente para mí."

Surrender yourself to the Lord

"Throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel." (Josh 24:23) "Do not be stiff-necked, as your fathers were; submit to the LORD..." (2 Chron. 30:8) "...submit to the Father..." (Heb. 12:9) "Submit yourselves, then to God." (James 4:7) "Not as I will, but as You will." (Matt. 26:39) "I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me." (John 5:30)

 If you desire God to guide you and use you, you must be willing to follow Him even before you know what He might ask. God does not answer the prayers of double-minded people who hold mental reservations or are fickle with Him (James 1:6-8). To surrender to God assumes that you believe that you trust Him to love you and to do right; it assumes that you believe that His will for you is good, acceptable and perfect (Rom. 12:1-2). Tell the Lord that you will not seek your own will in this day, but will surrender entirely to Him. The following prayer can be used:

                                Sample Prayer of Surrender

   Father, I surrender to You today with all my heart and soul. Lord Jesus, You are the Lord of my whole life. Dear Holy Spirit, I open all the secret places of my heart to You. 

   Oh God, I will hold nothing back. I offer up my body as a living sacrifice to be used entirely for You today. All that I have is Yours; my health, my time, my family, my successes, my failures, my relationships, my occupation, my times of relaxation and of work. I release these things and let them go. I surrender my fears, my insecurities, my sexuality, my strengths and my weaknesses. I specially surrender _____________, _______________, and ____________. I surrender my understanding of how these things ought to be, my choices and my will. I want to relate to these things as a steward, receiving my strength and my direction from You. Take me and use me. Amen.

    Ofrecer el sacrificio de alabanza _ haciéndolo incluso cuando no nos da ganas de hacerlo _ nos acerca hacía la presencia del Señor. La alabanza reconoce nuestra debilidad y la suficiencia de Dios. La alabanza da cabida en nuestros corazones para que la voluntad de Dios sea hecha, y quita cualquier motivación que podamos tener para manipular a Dios. La alabanza nos pone en un estado de ánimo apropiado para acercarnos a Dios. Aumenta nuestra fe para traer las peticiones a Dios. La alabanza debe ser central en nuestra vida de oración. Pueda que desees tratar una letanía de alabanza una vez, y otra vez tener ofrendas espontáneas de alabanza sobre los aspectos del carácter de Dios, ser u obras que el Espíritu trae a tu mente. Praise

Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, praise His holy name." (Psalm 103:1)

   Offering the sacrifice of praise _ doing it even when we don't feel like it _ draws us into the presence of the Lord. Praise acknowledges our weakness and God's sufficiency. Praise makes room in our hearts for God's will to be done, and takes away any motivations we might have to manipulate God. Praise puts us into a proper frame of mind to approach God. It increases our faith to bring petitions to God. Praise should be central to our prayer life. You might want to try a litany of praise one time and another time have spontaneous offering of praise concerning aspects of God's character, being or works that the Spirit brings to your mind. On another occasion you might want to praise God for the things that His names or attributes bring to mind, both of which help to encourage our faith.

   Here is a list of a few of God's names. As you address God by each name, offer up one to three sentences of the things you appreciate about God that are implied in that name.

   Here is a list of God's attributes. As you think about the implications of each attribute, it will stimulate many reasons to adore and praise God. During one time of praise you can focus on the implications of one attribute. During another time of praise you can go through each attribute. During another time of praise you can adore God for how one attribute impacts and gives meaning to every other attribute. During another time of praise you can use various attributes to thank and praise God that this makes Him sufficient for all the needs that you will be offering up to Him in a few minutes.

Transcendence - God is outside of time and space and unable to be controlled or limited by any forces in the universe (1 Kings 8:27). See comments on Immanence Is. 57:15 brings both together.
Trinity - God is three in one - Three Persons but one God (Matt. 28:19).
Veracity - God is truthful in all He says (Tit. 1:2) and therefore can be completely trusted (2 Sam. 22:3).
Wrath - God´s hatred and anger against all that is opposed to His moral character (Ex. 15:7; Deut. 9:19; Ps. 69:24; John 3:36).5

1 This is one of the most fundamental of all God's attributes. The attribute of Aseity means that God has no needs (Acts 17:25) and since God is completely self-sufficient, it is impossible for Him to be selfish or self-centered. Instead, the Father loves and gives of Himself entirely to Son and Spirit, and the Son loves and gives of Himself entirely to Father and Spirit, and the Spirit gives of Himself entirely to the Father and Son. It is God's aseity that leads to God's self-giving to us. But it is also why each Person of the godhead delights in praising the other members of the God head, and calls us to praise and adore them.
2 On the fundamental importance of this attribute, and on how it colors every other attribute, consider the fact that it is the only one that is repeated three times -"holy, holy, holy" (Is. 6:3; Rev. 4:8). Sproul says, "only once in sacred Scripture is an attribute of God elevated to the third degree... The Bible never says that God is love, love, love" R.C. 3 God's immanence and transcendence help us to avoid heresy. To hold to immanence and not transcendence can lead to pantheism. To hold to trancendence and not immanence can lead to Deism.
4 This means that God's attributes are not parts of God that can be divided. God is a unity that is indivisible and each Person is all of God and each attribute characterizes all of God. Theologians speak of this as a "unity of singularity."
