Ayudando a Tus Hijos a Superar la Ira (English)

. La ira puede llevar a la violencia contra los amigos (1 S. 16:14-23; 18:10-11) e incluso familiares (1 S. 20:33.).

Helping Your Children Overcome Anger

1. A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back (Prov. 29:11).
2. Since God commands us to put away anger (Psa. 37:8; Eph. 4:31; Col. 3:8), there is hope. Christ died to enable us to conquer these sins and He promises sufficient grace and a way out (1Cor. 10:13; Heb. 2:17-18; 4:15-16).
3. Think of times in your own life when you have controlled your anger.

Practical Advice For Conquering Anger

. Don't cover for him or excuse him or get him out of his mess. Proverbs 19:19 "A man of great wrath will suffer punishment; For if you rescue him, you will have to do it again." He won't outgrow this. He will just get worse.
. Pull your children away from angry people. Isolate the angry child and discipline. Proverbs 22:24 says, "Make no friendship with an angry man, And with a furious man do not go."
. Try to recognize the motivations for the anger...
. Start the child on a Scripture memory and meditation program. Some great Scriptures to memorize and use to resist Satan with are: Prov. 16:32; Matt. 11:29; Psa. 141:3; John 13:35; Matt. 5:43-48; 1Cor. 13:4-5; Gal. 5:22; Prov. 17:27; 19:11; 14:17; Heb. 10:30
. Engage in spiritual warfare. Meditate on Scriptural music (1Sam. 16,18), Scripture itself (what Christ used). Apply the blood of Christ to the child. Pray over him. Take the Biblical authority in Christ that you have to resist Satan's hold on the child. Ask for angelic warriors to protect the family.
.Teach the child to thank God for the situation that makes him angry (Eph. 5:20; 1Thes. 5:18).
. Teach the child to analyze why he is angry. (It usually indicates that a goal of the child's is being obstructed. He needs to determine if it is a good or a bad goal. If it is a righteous goal, the anger should be used to destroy the problem, not the person.)
. If there is a righteous goal that the child has a right to pursue, teach the child to take corrective action rather than blowing up. The action may be to withdraw, to ask a parent to intervene, to gently rebuke the one offending him, to conquer the evil with kindness, etc.
. If the goal is not righteous, teach the child to put off the underlying sinful attitudes that have led to the anger.
. Also, teach the child to ask God for forgiveness, not just the person he was angry at.
. Teach the child to not rejoice when calamity hits the one who torments him (Prov. 24:17-18), but rather to pray for that person's repentance and to seek to win that person through kindness (Rom. 12:9-21)
. Teach the child to seek to restore communication whether they are the one at fault (Matt. 5:21-26) or whether the other person is the one at fault (Matt. 18:15-20).
. Teach the child to try to resolve conflicts before bedtime (Eph. 4:26-27). Otherwise Satan may gain an advantage through the anger (v.27).
. Show the child some of the disastrous results of anger
  . Cain's anger led to murder (Gen. 4:5; see also Moses -Ex. 2:11-12; Acts 7:24-25; Simeon and Levi - Gen. 34:5-27;49:5-7).
   . Esau's anger made him want to murder Jacob (Gen. 27:45; see also David 1Sam. 25:13,21-22).
   . Anger kept Moses out of the promised land (numb. 20:10).
   . Anger made Balaam abuse his animal (Numb. 22:29).
   . Anger over what he thought was a silly command almost kept Namaan from getting healed (2 Kings 5:11).
   . Anger made Jonah and later Martha rebuke the Lord (Jonah 4:1-11; Luke 10:38-42).
   . Anger gives Satan an advantage over us (Eph. 4:27). and loss of spiritual protection (Prov. 25:28).
. Anger produces strife (Prov. 15:18; 30:33).
. An angry man abounds in sin (Prov. 29:22).
. Anger causes harm (Psa. 37:8).
. Anger exalts folly (Prov. 14:29).
. Anger unchecked teaches others to be angry (Prov. 22:24)
. Anger can lead to violence against friends (1 Sam. 16:14-23; 18:10-11) and even relatives (1 Sam. 20:33).

THE FAMILY AS TREASURE

   Matthew 6:21 declares, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." This reverses our natural expectation: in fact, many people wrongly quote this verse as, where your is, there will be your treasure also. This renders it, it true, impossible to know what a man treasures, whereas our Lord makes clear that we know man's heart by his works: "by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matt. 7:20).

   In terms of this we know what men are, who, despising the centrality of the family in Scripture, and prizing extra money, or material advantages, insist that their wives work rather than continuing their proper duty as mother and housewife. In all too many cases, where their is no urgent need, men insist that their wives give priority to working for money to working for the family as the mother and wife. Such a perspective means placing present advantages above the enduring welfare of the family. It means that a man's treasure is in material things, not his family in Christ.

Mild Atheism

   In a thoughtful article Donald E. Demary wrote in the summer, 1982, Asbury Theological Seminary Herald on "Mild Atheism." borrowing the term from Bryon S. Lawson, he defined worry, distrust, doubt, and a weak faith as mild atheism. Perhaps a better term might be practical atheism; at any rate, the point is a good one.
   The term is a very fitting one for what we see all around us today. In late 1982, Pastor Everett Siliven was very much in the news; because he refused to allow the State of Nebraska to control the teaching ministry of the church of which he is pastor, he was arrested and jailed. At the same time, similar trials were under way, or decisions pending, in several other states. I was a witness at many of these trials.
    The sad facts is that many of the fellow pastors of these men on trial did not stand with them. For a variety of reasons, they chose to separate themselves and to be critical. In some instances their fears of state reprisals were most evident. Now, let us concede at once that the state is very powerful; moreover, the modern state is specially militant, not in dealing with crime, but in crushing any threat to its sovereignty. There are very good reasons for being afraid of the state!
   There is, however, a more serious consideration. However much at times we may be afraid of men, we need all the more to be afraid of God. We are plainly told by god's law-word, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb. 10:31). If we are more afraid of men than of God, we manifest a practical atheism. The Bible tells us plainly, "The fear of the Lord tendeth to life and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil" (Prov. 19:23). Again, "The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe" (Prov. 29:25).
   ...The Lord summons us to be either the salt and the light of the world (Matt. 5:14), or be cast out by Him to be trampled underfoot by the forces of judgment. When we are ruled by the fear of men, the Lord God gives us over to that fear in a total way: " And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies" and the sound of the shaking leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword and they shall fall when none persueth" (Lev. 26:36).
    When franky Schaeffer produced the film, Whatever Happened to the Human Race?, the reaction of many pastors matched the description of Leviticus 26:36. They were already in captivity to the fear of man. What hope can they expect from God without repentance? There was obviously with each of these men "no fear of God before his eyes" (Ps. 36:1)
   Few of us are naturally courageous, and natural courage or boldness is not the issue here, but faith and a holy boldness. We cannot have this godly courage if we do not pray for it and cultivate it.
   We will be governed by fear, either the fear of God or by the fear of man. We will stand up to and deny someone, either God or man. Most of us dislikes confrontations, but God requires them, and life is a continual confrontation with problems, with evil, and with opportunities. All confrontations are opportunities if we meet them in Christ, who makes all things work together for good to them that love him, to all who are the called in Christ (Rom. 8:28).

INHERITANCE AND POSSESSION

   God's fatherhood is not a matter of imagery or typology but is a legal fact. By the adoption of grace, we have been made "Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Gal. 3:29). The promises to Abraham's seed are for those who are faithful to the covenant with Abraham, i.e., those who are by faith sons of Abraham. Those who meet this "spiritual" requirement are promised far-reaching material blessings (Gen. 17:1-9). If we are sons of God by faith, we are "then an heir of God through Christ" (Gal. 4:7). We are "heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together" (Rom. 8:17). The work of Christ makes us His joint-heirs; our readiness to stand with Him and to suffer for His name's sake marks us as true heirs. The inheritance is real because Christ's work is real, and our membership in Him is real. Every aspect of the equation is real: to spiritualize away a part is to erode all.
    Because God's fatherhood is a legal fact, our heirship is a legal fact, and we have by virtue of it been called to serve God and to reclaim our lost inheritance. The fulness of the inheritance is in the new creation, but it cannot be deferred entirely to the end of time. Proverbs 13:22 declares, " a good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just." Scott comments, "This seems to mean that only the just can leave an inheritance, and they also inherit from the wicked." When the just stand fully and clearly on the whole word of God, they are indeed heirs of all things, but they cannot deny the law of God and be heirs under that law. We are commanded to seek "first the Kindom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you" (Matt. 6:33). To place priority on gaining wealth invites judgment: "An inheritance (or, estate) may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall be blessed" (Prov. 20:21).
    The inheritance of believers is a total one: The Kingdom of God (Matt. 25:34; I Cor. 6:9, 10; 15:50; Gal. 5:21; Eph. 5:5; James 2:2). They inherit the earth (Ps. 37:29; Matt. 5:5). They are heirs of salvation (Heb. 1:14), or a blessing (I Peter 3:9), of glory (Rom. 8:17-18), and of incorruption (I Cor. 15:50).

Forgiveness

   The following is a true story that shows how forgiveness can bring healing not only to your own heart, but to others as well.
  A man came back to work in a place where he had been fired several months previously. He was such a changed man in his work quality, his attitude and his relations that a fellow worker asked him what had happened. He told about the tragedy that had sent him into a downward spiral of despondency and self-hatred. When he was in College he had been part of a Fraternity initiation committee. He said this: "We placed the new members in  the middle of a long stretch of a country road. I was to drive my car at as great a speed as possible straight at them. The challenge was for them to stand firm until a signal was given to jump out of the way. It was a dark night. I had reached one hundred miles an hour and saw their look of terror in the headlights. The signal was given and everyone jumped clear - except one boy.
I left college after that. I later married and had two children. The look on that boy's face as I passed over him at a hundred miles an hour stayed in my mind all the time. I became hopelessly inconsistent, moody, and finally became a problem drinker. My wife had to work to bring in the only income we had. I was drinking at home one morning when someone rang the doorbell. I opened to find myself facing a woman who seemed strangely familiar. She sat down in our living room and told me she was the mother of the boy I had killed years before. She said that she had heated me and spent agonizing nights rehearsing ways to get revenge. I then listened as she told me of the love and forgiveness that had come when she gave her heart to Christ. She said, "I have come to let you know that I forgive you and I want you to forgive me." I look into her eyes that morning and I saw deep in her eyes the permission to be the kind of man I might have been had i never killed that boy. That forgiveness changed my whole life."
When she experienced the supernatural work of God replacing bitterness with forgiveness and love she not only freed herself, she freed this man.
   The hard work of conquering bitterness is worth it. It is worth it in the freedom you give yourself, and it is worth it in the freedom that you can bring to others. I change you to relinquish your bitterness and experience the refreshing graces that Jesus died to replace.

The Bible's Claims

    The Bible itself claims to be a textbook. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16,17). Notice that the Bible claims to be sufficient: By the study of all Scripture, the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. He is not partly equipped for every good work and in need of other textbooks, nor is he thoroughly equipped for some good work. The Scripture is sufficient thoroughly to equip one for every good work, including the good work of politics, economics, biology, and philosophy.
   Moreover, the Scripture claims to be necessary, for in Christ are hidden "all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Notice the "all". Scripture does not claim to be a book that needs to be supplemented by other books: All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge belong to Christ, and Christ has reveled some of them to us in the Scripture for our edification, for our education. Among the four items Paul lists in 2Timothy 3:16,17_teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training_teaching appears first. The Scriptures are primarily a textbook. Through teaching the Scriptures to his students, a teacher can rebuke them for errors in thinking and behaving, correct erroneous and false beliefs, and train them in every good work.
   2Timothy 3:16,17 are only two of the hundred-plus verses in the bible that command us to teach the Bible to each other, to our children, and to ourselves. In Leviticus 10:11 the Lord instructs Aaron to "teach the Israelites all the decrees the Lord has given them through Moses." And of course, there is Matthew 28:20; ... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
   The Bible most definitely regards itself as a textbook. Have we any right to do otherwise? Should we not heed this warning that Paul gives Timothy almost immediately after he has declared the authority of all Scripture? "for the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers [and textbooks] to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" (2Timothy 4:3,4).

LAS BENDICIONES (English)

TU EMINENTE TRINO,
Porque tú me has enseñado
Tú me has mostrado
          que las efusiones acertadas del amor divino en el alma
          son superiores y distintas de la salud del cuerpo,
          y que muchas veces los consuelos espirituales están en sus niveles más altos
          cuando el bienestar físico se encuentra en su nivel más bajo.
Tú me has dado la ordenanza de la canción como un medio de gracia;
          que los ángeles y los santos elegidos hicieron perfecta
          ahora cantan delante de tu trono y delante del Cordero.
Yo te bendigo por templar cada angustia con el gozo;
          mucho de la primera tal vez me podría agobiar,
          mucho del último tal vez me podría enorgullecer;
          privado de ti me muero de hambre,
          Lejos de ti tengo sed y languidez;
   Pero tú eres todo lo que necesito.
          Permíteme continuamente captar la promesa,
          "Nunca te dejaré ni te abandonaré."

BLESSINGS

THOU GREAT THREE-ONE,
Author of all blessings I enjoy, of all I hope for,
Thou hast taught me
         that neither the experience of present evils,
         nor the remembrances of former sins,
         nor the remonstrances of friends,
         will or can affect a sinner's heart,
         except thou vouchsafe to reveal thy grace
         and quicken the dead in sin
         by the effectual working of thy Spirit's power.
Thou hast shown me
         that the sensible effusions of divine love in the soul
         are superior to and distinct from bodily health,
         and that oft-times spiritual comforts are at their highest
         when physical well-being is at its lowest.
Thou hast given me the ordinance of song as a means of grace;
Fit me to bear my part in that music ever new,
         which elect angels and saints made perfect
         now sing before thy throne and before the Lamb.
I bless thee for tempering every distress with joy;
         too much of the former might weigh me down,
         too much of the latter might puff me up;
Thou art wise to give me a taste of both.
I love thee
         for giving me clusters of grapes in the wilderness,
         and drops of heavenly wine
         that set me longing to have my fill.
Apart from thee I quickly die,
         bereft of thee I starve,
         far from thee I thirst and droop;
  But thou art all I need.
         Let me continually grasp the promise,
         'I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.'

HUMILDAD EN EL SERVICIO (English)

                               oportunidades descuidadas,
                               palabras mal aconsejadas,
       comportamiento impropio, provocando mezquindad.
        haz tú entrar a raudales el bálsamo del consuelo celestial;
         no me abandones en justa ira;

       el reino del amor mi motivo,
       la ley del amor mi regla.

¡Oh Dios de toda gracia! haz me más agradecido, más humilde;
        que tengo razón para la tristeza y la humillación;
Oh dame el arrepentimiento a la vida;
Entonces envíame a darlo a conocer a mis semejantes."

HUMILITY IN SERVICE

"MIGHTY GOD,
I humble myself for faculties misused,
                              opportunities neglected,
                              words ill-advised,
I repent of my folly and inconsiderate ways,
                 my broken resolutions, untrue service,
                 my backsliding steps,
                 my vain thoughts.
O bury my sins in the ocean of Jesus' blood
      and let no evil result from my  fretful temper,
      unseemly behaviour, provoking pettiness.
If by unkindness I have wounded or hurt another,
       do thou  pour in the balm of heavenly consolation;
If I have turned coldly from need, misery, grief,
        do not in just anger forsake me;
If I have withheld relief from penury and pain,
        do not withhold thy gracious bounty from me.
If I have shunned those who have offended me,
       keep open the door of thy heart to my need.

Fill me with an over-flowing ocean of compassion,
      the reign of love my motive,
      the law of love my rule.

O thou God of all grace, make me more thankful, more humble;
Inspire me with a deep sense of my unworthiness arising from
       the depravity of my nature, my omitted duties,
       my unimproved advantages, thy commands violated by me.
With all my calls to gratitude and joy may I remember
       that I have reason for sorrow and humiliation;
O give me repentance unto life;
Cement my oneness with my blessed Lord,
         that faith may adhere to him more immovably,
         that love may entwine itself round him more tightly,
         that his spirit may pervade every fibre of my being.
Then send me out to make him known to my fellow-men."
