(a). Aquellos que temen a Dios no les faltará_Temed a Jehová, vosotros sus santos, Pues nada falta [carencia] a los que le temen. Los leoncillos necesitan, y tienen hambre; Pero los que buscan a Jehová no tendrán falta de ningún bien, Salmo 34:9,10. (Ver también Proverbios 15:16, Salmo 112:1,3, Proverbios 22:4).
(b). Aquellos que temen a Dios estarán contentos con su trabajo y familia_Bienaventurado todo aquel que teme a Jehová, Que anda en sus caminos. Cuando comieres el trabajo de tus manos, bienaventurado serás, y te irá bien. Tu mujer será como vid que lleva fruto a los lados de tu casa; Tus hijos como plantas de olivo alrededor de tu mesa. He aquí, que así será bendecido el hombre Que teme a Jehová, Salmo 128:1-4.
(c). Aquellos que temen a Dios estarán en máxima seguridad sin ninguna razón para temer a nada ni a nadie más_El temor de Jehová es para vida, Y con él vivirá lleno de reposo el hombre; no será visitado de mal, Proverbios 19:23.
(d). Aquellos que temen al Señor, tendrán vidas prolongadas_El temor de Jehová aumentará los días; Más los años de los impíos serán acortados, Proverbios 10:27.
(e). El corazón, el ojo y la mano de Dios descansan sobre los que le temen.
(1). El Corazón de Dios_Como el padre se compadece de los hijos, Se compadece Jehová de los que le temen, Salmo 103:13.
(2). El Ojo de Dios_He aquí el ojo de Jehová está sobre los que le temen, Sobre los que esperan en su misericordia, Para librar sus almas de la muerte, Y para darles vida en tiempo de hambre, Salmo 33:18.
(3). La Mano de Dios_¡Cuán grande es tu bondad, que has guardado para los que te temen, Que has mostrado a los que esperan en ti, delante de los hijos de los hombres!Salmo 31:19
C. ¿CÓMO ES ESTE TEMOR DE JEHOVÁ OBTENIDO Y EXPERIMENTADO?
Primero, estudia la Biblia para conocer a Dios y conocer su voluntad para ti_Venid, hijos, oídme, El temor de Jehová os enseñaré, Salmo 34:11. El que menosprecia el precepto perecerá por ello; Más el que teme el mandamiento será recompensado, Proverbios 13:13.
Segundo, ora fervientemente que Dios conmueva tu corazón con el conocimiento de Él para temerlo, que Él convierta tu conocimiento acerca de Dios en el conocimiento personal de Dios_Enséñame, oh Jehová, tu camino; caminaré yo en tu verdad; afirma mi corazón para que tema tu nombre. Te alabaré, oh Jehová Dios mío, con todo mi corazón, Y glorificaré tu nombre para siempre, Salmo 86:11-12. Si clamares a la inteligencia, Y a la prudencia diéres tu voz; Si como a la plata la buscares, Y la escudrinares como a tesoros, Entonces entenderás el temor de Jehová, Y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios, Proverbios 2:3-5.
Tercero, cree que el terror de Dios, puede convertirse en el temor afectuoso de Dios por medio de Jesucristo, porque el juicio cayó sobre Cristo y no sobre nosotros_quien llevó él mismo nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, estando muertos a los pecados, vivamos a la justicia; y por cuya herida fuisteis sanados. Porque vosotros erais como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora habéis vuelto al Pastor y Obispo de vuestras almas, 1 Pedro 2:24-25.
Conclusión
1. Esposas, memoriza este pasaje y hazlo tu compañero diario y el modelo para tu vida, cuyo modelo tú no alcanzarás sin la fe en Cristo, la sumisión a Su Palabra, el temor de Dios y la dependencia del Espíritu Santo.
2. Madres, haz memorizar a tus hijas Proverbios 31:10-21.
3. Hombres solteros, busca esta clase de mujer para que sea tu esposa. Asegúrate de que tú eres digno de tal mujer por ser un hombre temeroso de Dios tú mismo.
¡Qué valiosa también es esta imagen, como un directorio para la elección matrimonial! Que la virtud, no la belleza, sea el objeto primordial. Establecida contra la vanidad de la belleza, la verdadera felicidad conectada con una mujer que teme al Señor. Aquí está la base sólida para la felicidad. "Si," dice el Obispo Beveridge, "yo la elijo por su belleza, la amaré no más mientras esa continúe, y entonces adiós inmediatamente a ambos, el deber y el placer. Pero si yo la amo por sus virtudes; entonces, aunque todas las otras fundaciones de arena fallen, todavía mi felicidad permanecerá entera."- Bridges, p. 628
4. Si este retrato completo de larga duración de una mujer virtuosa es un modelo de piedad, debemos observar que la devoción total al Señor no disminuye de ninguna manera nuestra atención a las responsabilidades temporales, sociales y físicas. Más bien, "hace que una mujer sea [y un hombre], escrupulosamente exacta en todas sus obligaciones del hogar, en todo dentro de su provincia; cuidadosa no por su negligencia traer reproche a su santa profesión [de la fe en Cristo]," - Bridges, pg. 628.
5. Así concluimos nuestro estudio de "este espejo [reflejar] para las damas, las cuales están deseosas de abrir y vestirse por sí mismas, y si lo hacen, su atavío sería hallado para alabar, y honrar y glorificar cuando aparezca Jesucristo."- Matthew Henry, pg. 805.
1 "La sabiduría" en el libro de Proverbios es la PERCEPCIÓN profunda de la verdadera naturaleza de las cosas que viene con la creciente comprensión de la Biblia, y la HABILIDAD para aplicar de manera práctica estas percepciones a nuestras vidas cotidianas.
2 El envejecimiento no significa la pérdida de la belleza a los que te aman. Como un hombre mayor me dijo una vez, la razón de que las mujeres mayores lucen bellas para él ahora, mientras que ellas no lo eran cuando era un hombre joven, es porque, como él ha envejecido, sus ojos se han envejecido también. Lo que antes no era atractivo para él, ahora es atractivo.

3. The Blessings of the Fear of the Lord
(a). Those who fear God will not lack_O fear the LORD , you His saints; for those who fear Him, there is no want [lack]. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; but they who seek the LORD shall not be in want of any good thing, Psalm 34:9,10. (See also Proverbs 15:16, Psalm 112:1,3, Proverbs 22:4.)
(b). Those who fear God will be content with their work and family_How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and it will be well with you. You wife shall be like a fruitful vine, within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD, Psalm 128:1-4.
(c). Those who fear God will be in utmost safety with no reason to fear anything or anybody else_The fear of the LORD leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil, Proverbs 19:23.
(d). Those who fear the Lord will have prolonged lives_The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be shortened, Proverbs 10:27.
(e). The heart, eye and hand of God rest upon those who fear Him.
(1). God's Heart_Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him, Psalm 103:13.
(2). God's Eye_Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His lovingkindness, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine, Psalm 33:18.
(3). God's Hand_How great is Thy goodness, which thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, Psalm 31:19
C. HOW IS THIS FEAR OF THE LORD TO BE OBTAINED & EXPERIENCED?
First, study the Bible to know God and to know His will for you_Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD, Psalm 34:11. The one who despises the Word will be in debt to it, but the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded, Proverbs 13:13.
Second, pray earnestly that God would stir up your heart with knowledge of Him to fear Him, that He would turn your knowledge about God into personal knowledge of God_Teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in Thy truth; unite my heart to fear Thy name. I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and will glorify thy name forever, Psalm 86:11-12. For if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding; if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will discern the fear of the LORD, and discover the knowledge of God, Proverbs 2:3-5.
Third, believe that dread of God can be turned into affectionate fear of God through Jesus Christ, because judgement fell on Christ instead of on us_He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds we were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls, I Peter 2:24-25.
Conclusion
1. Wives, memorize this passage and make it your daily companion and the pattern for your life, which pattern you will not reach without faith in Christ, submission to His Word, fear of God and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
2. Mothers, have your daughters memorize Proverbs 31:10-21.
3. Single men, look for this kind of woman to be your wife. Make sure you are worthy of such a woman by being a God-fearing man yourself.
How valuable also is this picture, as a directory for the marriage choice! Let virtue not beauty be the primary object. Set against the vanity of beauty the true happiness connected with a woman who fears the Lord. Here is the solid basis for happiness. "If," says Bishop Beveridge, "I choose her for her beauty, I shall love her no longer than while that continues; and then farewell at once both duty and delight. But if I love her for her virtues; then, though all other sandy foundations fail, yet will my happiness remain entire."- Bridges, p. 628
4. If this full length portrait of a virtuous woman is a model of godliness, we must observe that total devotion to the Lord does not in any way slacken our attention to temporal, social and physical responsibilities. Rather, "it renders a woman [and a man], scrupulously exact in all her household obligations, in everything within her province; careful not by her negligence to bring reproach upon her holy profession [of faith in Christ],"- Bridges, p. 628.
5. Thus we conclude our study of "this looking-glass [mirror] for ladies, which they are desired to open and dress themselves by; and, if they do so, their adorning will be found to praise, and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ."- Matthew Henry, p. 805.
1"Wisdom" in the book of Proverbs is deep INSIGHT into the true nature of things that comes with an increasing understanding of the Bible; and the SKILL to apply these insights practically to our everyday lives.
2 Aging does not mean the loss of beauty to those who love you. As an older man told me once, the reason older women look beautiful to him now, whereas they did not when he was a young man, is because, as he has aged, his eyes have grown older as well. What once was not attractive to him, is now attractive.
