Lo que motiva a esta excelente esposa no es el egoísmo o la estrechez mental, ni la preocupación limitada para nadie fuera del círculo de su familia. Su motivación es el amor_el amor por Dios, el amor por su familia y el amor por aquellos que están fuera de su familia que necesitan de su ayuda, como veremos en el siguiente versículo.
J. (31:20) ALARGA SU MANO AL POBRE, Y EXTIENDE SUS MANOS AL MENESTEROSO
Los versículos 19 y 20 comprenden una hermosa imagen: La mujer virtuosa extendiendo las manos a su trabajo hace que sea posible para ella extender sus manos a aquellos que están en necesidad.
Con simpatía y disposición para ayudar, ella se presenta a aquellos que están oprimidos por los infortunios de la vida como si por una alianza, como si dijera: pon tu confianza en mí, yo haré lo que pueda_ ¡ahí tienes mi mano! _ Ella le extiende ambas de sus manos, para que él pudiera agarrarlas, ambas, o lo que él puede. Ella no le tira a él simplemente un regalo desde una distancia, sino sobre todo ella le da para que experimente su cálida compasión. _ Este versículo (20) es completo en sí mismo como una descripción del carácter, y el autor ha hecho bien en escoger tales expresiones fuertes, porque sin esta compasión con la miseria y la pobreza, ella, tan buena y digna de confianza y trabajadora, podría ser en efecto agradable a su esposo, pero no a Dios.-Keil, pp.333,34.
K. (31:21) NO TIENE TEMOR DE LA NIEVE POR SU FAMILIA, PORQUE TODA SU FAMILIA ESTÁ VESTIDA DE ROPAS DOBLES.
La nieve en la temporada de lluvias no es raro en Palestina, y es acompañada a menudo con el frío helado. La mujer virtuosa sabe que el frío se acerca sin ningún tipo de temor por su familia, porque ella ya ha planificado antes y ha hecho ropa de lana caliente para todos ellos.
¿Por qué esta ropa de lana se describe como escarlata? Siendo lana conserva el calor, y siendo escarlata es atractiva y digna. 2 Samuel 1:24 describe a una como vestía ...lujosamente de escarlata. Ella se asegura de que su familia está cuidadosamente y atractivamente vestida, ni descuidada, sucia o estrafalaria o negligente.
L. (31:22) ELLA SE HACE TAPICES; DE LINO FINO Y PÚRPURA ES SU VESTIDO
Ambos ella y sus hijos tienen ropa abrigadora y fina, porque ella misma ha hecho la ropa. Ella hace almohadas hermosas y tapices para su dormitorio, y también ella misma se viste con vestidos costosos. ("Púrpura" fue ropa costosa importada de Tiro y Sidón) como Matthew Henry, también dijo: "Ella tiene ropa de ricos y se las pone bien."- pg. 803. Es posible prestar demasiada atención al vestido (1 Timoteo 2:9, 1 Pedro 3:3) y es posible prestar muy poca atención al vestido. Los seres humanos son personalidades físico-espirituales unificadas, por lo tanto, la apariencia física y las disposiciones internas están relacionadas entre sí. Demostramos en el exterior lo que somos por dentro. Por otra parte, las personas deben vestirse de acuerdo a su lugar y posición en la vida, de acuerdo con su papel y función, y en consideración de la situación delante de ellos. La limpieza no está al lado de la piedad, la limpieza, en la medida de lo posible, es una parte de la piedad. La belleza física es vana sólo cuando es idolatrada y procurada, aparte del temor de Dios. Una mujer que teme al Señor tratará todo lo posible de vestirse atractivamente, modestamente, femeninamente y bien.
Incluso en reclusión aislada cierta consideración [de la manera de vestir de la mujer virtuosa] sería debido, mucho más, lo adecuado a la gradación que la Providencia ha asignado, y como ordenando un respeto del esposo, que justamente reclama, que el exterior de su esposa, por lo que a ella se refiere, debe seguir siendo no menos agradable, que cuando al principio su corazón estaba atraído hacia ella.- Bridges, p.624.

THE CHARACTER OF THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN - PART IV
I . (Prov. 31:19) SHE STRETCHES OUT HER HANDS TO THE DISTAFF, AND HER HANDS GRASP THE SPINDLE
That which motivates this excellent wife is not selfishness or narrow-mindedness, nor limited concern for no one outside the circle of her family. Her motivation is love_love for God, love for her family, and love for those outside her family who stand in need of her help, as we will see in the next verse.
J. (31:20) SHE EXTENDS HER HAND TO THE POOR; AND SHE STRETCHES OUT HER HANDS TO THE NEEDY
Verses 19 and 20 comprise a beautiful picture: The virtuous woman stretching out her hands to her work makes it possible for her to stretch out her hands to those who are in need.
With sympathy and readiness to help, she presents herself to those who are oppressed by the misfortunes of life as if for an alliance, as if saying: place your confidence in me, I shall do whatever I can_ there you have my hand! _ She stretches out to him both of her hands, that he might grasp them, both of them, or whichever he may. She does not throw to him merely a gift from a distance, but above all she gives to him to experience her warm sympathy. _ This one verse (20) is complete in itself as a description of character, and the author has done well in choosing such strong expressions, for, without this sympathy with misery and poverty, she, so good and trustworthy and industrious, might indeed be pleasing to her husband, but not to God.-Keil, pp.333,34.
K. (31:21)SHE IS NOT AFRAID OF THE SNOW FOR HER HOUSEHOLD, FOR ALL HER HOUSEHOLD ARE CLOTHED WITH SCARLET
Snow in the rainy season is not rare in Palestine; and it is often accompanied with freezing cold. The virtuous woman knows cold weather is approaching without any fear for her family, because she has already planned ahead and has made warm woolen clothing for them all.
Why is this woolen clothing described as scarlet? Being wool it preserves warmth, and being scarlet it is attractive and dignified. II Samuel 1:24 describes one as clothed...luxuriously in scarlet. She makes sure her family are neatly and attractively dressed, nor slovenly, dirty, or sloppy or careless.
L. (31:22) SHE MAKES COVERINGS FOR HERSELF; HER CLOTHING IS FINE LINEN AND PURPLE
Both she and her children have warm and fine clothing because she has made the clothing herself. She makes beautiful pillows and tapestries for her bedroom, and also clothes herself in costly attire. ("Purple" was costly garments imported from Tyre and Sidon.) As Matthew Henry as well-said, "She has rich clothes and puts them well."- p.803. It is possible to pay too much attention to dress (I Timothy 2:9, I Peter 3:3) and it is possible to pay too little attention to dress. Human beings are unified physical-spiritual personalities; therefore, physical appearance and inner dispositions are interrelated. We show on the outside what we are on the inside. Furthermore, people should dress according to their place and position in life, according to their role and function, and in consideration of the situation before them. Cleanliness is not next to godliness; cleanliness, insofar as it is possible, is a part of godliness. Physical beauty is vain only when it is idolized and sought after apart from the fear of God. A woman who fears the Lord will try her best to dress attractively, modestly, femininely and well.
Even in isolated seclusion some regard [for manner of dress by the virtuous woman] would be due; much more, as suited to the gradation which Providence has assigned; and as commanding an husband's respect, who justly claims, that his wife's exterior, so far as she is concerned, should continue to be not less pleasing, than when at first his heart was drawn to her.- Bridges, p.624.
