EL FRACASO DE LOS HOMBRES (English)

  

   Las raíces de cada crisis cultural descansan en las crisis personales. El fracaso de una cultura es el fracaso de los hombres en ella. Una sociedad no puede ser vital y dotada de un vigor en curso si los hombres en ella se caracterizan por una pérdida de la fe, un retiro de la responsabilidad, y una falta de voluntad para hacer frente a los  problemas personales. Una cultura pierde su voluntad de vivir y conquistar si sus miembros manifiestan un espíritu de retiro y rendición.

   En la crisis cultural de nuestro tiempo, el papel de los hombres es particularmente significativo. Cuando decimos "los hombres" en este contexto nos referimos a los varones, no a toda la humanidad. Lo poco de la masculinidad verdadera que en general ellos poseen se manifiesta en su predilección por los juegos de rol. La imagen de macho es cultivada en el vestir, el habla y el comportamiento, la fachada de un hombre reemplaza a un hombre. El juego de roles es fundamental para nuestros tiempos, las personas juegan un papel, ellos representan un papel, porque la realidad de su ser es mucho menos importante que su imagen pública. Las raíces del juego de roles van profundas en la mentalidad moderna.

    Las apariencias empezaron a sustituir a la realidad en las relaciones personales, así como en la política nacional, tanto nacional como extranjera. Los resultados han sido devastadores. El juego de roles en el teatro termina normalmente en una ovación y un cheque de pago. En la vida real, la política, el juego de roles lleva en vez al desastre.

    El resultado es el fracaso de los hombres, de los varones. A principios de la era moderna (sólo en el siglo 19 en los Estados Unidos), los hombres abandonaron la familia y sus responsabilidades para con sus esposas, y la religión fue relegada de manera similar a las mujeres como su principal preocupación. Los hombres eligieron la irresponsabilidad y la doble moral se convirtió en una forma de vida. Por supuesto, los hombres insistieron en toda la autoridad de la Biblia dada a un hombre mientras que niegan sus responsabilidades, olvidando que toda autoridad humana en la Escritura está condicionada a la obediencia a Dios. Ninguna autoridad absoluta es dada al hombre en cualquier ámbito, y toda autoridad tiene el servicio a Dios y al hombre como su propósito, no la auto-promoción o engrandecimiento.

    El movimiento de la liberación femenina no es más que el intento de las mujeres para reclamar las irresponsabilidades que hoy constituyen los derechos de los varones, para sí mismos. El propósito del movimiento de la liberación de los niños es para reclamar, privilegios parecidos de la irresponsabilidad de los niños.

    Lógicamente, los hombres que no pueden gobernarse a sí mismos, no serán capaces de gobernar con éxito a sus familias, vocaciones, o naciones. El presidente estadounidense más famoso del siglo 20 no podía manejar su dinero ni sus propios asuntos, pero trató de gobernar el mundo ... No es sorprendente que nuestra crisis cultural mundial tiene sus raíces en el fracaso de los hombres. El hecho notable de nuestra época no es que hemos tenido a veces un movimiento de liberación de las mujeres agresivo, sino que la gran mayoría de las mujeres han soportado pacientemente la inmadurez voluntaria de los hombres.

    Aunque el juego de roles es común para hombres, mujeres y niños, este es el fracaso de los hombres debido a su juego de roles que tienen las raíces más profundas y las consecuencias más trágicas. La abdicación de los hombres de sus responsabilidades como esposos y padres está teniendo resultados tristes en la vida familiar.

    Nuestra crisis cultural se apoya en la retirada de los hombres de las responsabilidades y las obligaciones de la masculinidad. La fe ha sido sentimentalizada, y una fe sentimental no es capaz de producir más que el chorro piadoso. La riqueza de las esferas de la vida y todas las variedades de las responsabilidades institucionales han sido erosionadas. Los hombres no se ven a sí mismos como sacerdotes, profetas y reyes ante Dios. La ley bíblica enfatiza los origenes locales y personales de gobierno. Todos los hombres han de ser los ancianos, los gobernantes, bajo Dios, los gobernantes sobre las familias, las vocaciones, y las instituciones de las que forman parte. Sobre cada diez familias, ha de estar un anciano sobre diez, luego sobre cincuenta, un ciento, miles y así en adelante. Los cientos fueron una vez una unidad básica de la ley y las estructuras judiciales. Todos los hombres tenían que ser hombres o pagar un precio por su negativa. En la Escritura, el hombre que eligió vivir por un subsidio tenía que tener las orejas perforadas como un testimonio público de su rechazo de la responsabilidad del hombre y la libertad en favor de la seguridad.

   En nuestro tiempo, la crisis es aplazamiento pasado. Ha llegado el momento para que los hombres se basen en el total consejo de Dios, a ser responsables, maduros y emprendedores. No puede haber una resolución a nuestra crisis mundial sin una resolución de la crisis en la responsabilidad masculina. Culpar a las conspiraciones, por más que algunas pueden ser reales, los problemas especiales, el pasado, y más, todos ellos son evasiones si los hombres no asumen sus responsabilidades hoy como un privilegio y un deber ante Dios.

THE FAILURE OF MEN

   The roots of every cultural crisis rest in personal crises. The failure of a culture is the failure of the men in it. A society cannot be vital and possessed of an on-going vigor if the men therein are marked by a loss of faith, a retreat from responsibility, and an unwillingness to cope with personal problems. A culture loses its will to live and to conquer if its members manifest a spirit of retreat and surrender.
   In the cultural crisis of our time, the role of men is particularly significant. When we say "men" in this context we mean males, not humanity as a whole. How little true masculinity they in general possess is manifested in their predilection for role playing. The macho image is cultivated in dress, speech, and behavior; the facade of a man replaces a man. Role playing is basic to our times; people play a part, they act out a role, because the reality of their being is far less important than their public image. The roots of role-playing go deep into the modern mentality.
    Appearances began to replace reality in personal relations as well as in national policy, both domestic and foreign. The results have been devastating. Role playing in the theater ends commonly in a curtain call and a pay check. In real life, politics, role playing leads instead to disaster.
    The result is the failure of men, of males. Early in the modern era (only in the 19th century in the United States), men abandoned the family and its responsibilities to their wives, and religion was similarly relegated to women as their concern. Men chose irresponsibility, and the double standard became a way of life. Of course, men insisted on all the Biblical authority given to a man while denying its responsibilities, forgetting that all human authority in Scripture is conditional upon obedience to God.  No absolute authority is given to man in any sphere, and all authority has service to God and man as its purpose, not self-promotion or aggrandizement.
    The women´s liberation movement is simply the attempt by women to claim the irresponsibilities which today constitute male rights, for themselves. The purpose of the children's liberation movement is to claim like privileges of irresponsibility for children.
    Logically, men who cannot govern themselves will not be able to govern successfully their families, vocations, or nations. The most famous American president of the 20th century could not handle his money nor his own affairs, but he sought to rule the world...Not surprisingly, our world-wide cultural crisis is rooted in the failure of men. The remarkable fact of our era is not that we have had an at times aggressive women's liberation movement but that the vast majority of women have patiently endured the willful immaturity of men.
    Although role playing is common to men, women, and children, it is the failure of men because of their role-playing which has the deepest roots and the most tragic consequences. The abdication of men from their responsibilities as husbands and fathers is having sad results in family life.
    Our cultural crisis rests in the retreat of males from the responsibilities and duties of manhood. The faith has been sentimentalized, and a sentimental faith is unable to produce more than pious gush. The richness of life's spheres and all the varieties of institutional responsibilities have been eroded. Men do not see themselves as priests, prophets, and kings under God. Biblical law emphasizes the local and personal origins of government. All men are to be elders, rulers, under God, rulers over families, vocations, and the institutions of which they are a part. Over every ten families, there is to be an elder over ten, then over fifty, a hundred, thousands and so on up. The hundreds were once a basic unit of law and court structures. All men had to be men or pay a price for their refusal. In Scripture, the man who chose to live by subsidy had to have his ears pierced as a public witness to his rejection of a man's responsibility and freedom in favor of security.
   In our time, the crisis is past deferment. The time has come for men to ground themselves in the whole counsel of God, to be responsible, mature, and venturesome. There can be no resolution to our world crisis without a resolution of the crisis in male responsibility. To blame conspiracies, however real some may be, special problems, the past, and more, are all evasions if men do not assume their responsibilities today as a privilege and a duty under God.
