LA MUJER QUE TEME A JEHOVÁ - II Parte

- Bridges

   a. Los Dos Elementos del Temor del Señor

(4). La obediencia a Dios. Considera a Abraham.

THE WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD - Part II

2. The Nature of the Fear of the Lord

It [fear of God] is that affectionate reverence by which the child of God bends himself humbly and carefully to his Father's law. His wrath is so bitter, and His love so sweet, that hence springs an earnest desire to please Him.- Bridges

a. The Two Elements of the Fear of the Lord

(1.) Fear of the Holy and Righteous Judgment of Almighty God

My flesh trembles for fear of Thee, and I am afraid of Thy judgments, Psalm 119:120.

(See also Deuteronomy 17:13, 21:21, Psalm 119:120, 27:1, 3:6, Philippians 2:12,13, Romans 11:20,21, Matthew 10:28.) True faith trembles before revealed Divine threatenings _For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape if you neglect so great a salvation, Hebrews 2:1f. A God-fearing person is one who knows contrition of heart for his sin; and who always takes into account the righteous judgment of God before whom he will stand.

     (2) Awe, Reverence and Adoration Before the Glory, Majesty, Beauty and Resplendent Transcendence of God

Great and marvelous are Thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty, righteous and true are Thy ways, Thou King of the nations. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Thy name? for Thou alone art holy..., Revelation 15:3-4

(See also Isaiah 6:1f, Revelation 15:3,4, 1:13f.) God sometimes overwhelms us as He did the seraphim and Isaiah in Isaiah 6. To know God at all is to fear Him, for to know Him is to know Him who is majestic in holiness.
The fear of God in us is that frame of heart and mind which reflects our apprehension of who and what God is; and who and what God is will tolerate nothing less than total commitment to Him.-John Murray, PRINCIPLES OF CONDUCT

B. THE ACCOMPANIMENTS, FRUIT AND STIMULANTS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

(1). An all-pervasive sense of the presence of God_Where can I go from Thy Spirit? Or where can I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, Thou art there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there thy hand will lead me, and thy right hand will lay hold of me, Psalm 139:7-10.

(2). An all-pervasive sense of our dependance upon God and of our responsibility to Him in all we do and think_for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we exist through Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him,  I Corinthians 8:6. (See also Psalm 139:1-6, 13-16, 23,24, Acts 17:26-28, Romans 11:36, I Corinthians 8:6, Hebrews 2:10, Revelation 4:11.)

(3). A constant consciousness of our relation to God. The first thought of the godly person in every circunstance is -God's relationship to him and to the circumstance, and his and its relationship to God. That is God-consciousness; and that is what the fear of God is.

(4). Obedience to God. Consider Abraham. Next to his faith in God's promise, instant obedience to God is the outstanding feature of Abraham's life _ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of works, faith was perfected, James 2:21-22. And it was because he feared the Lord that he obeyed the Lord's voice. He could offer up his child of promise because he feared God. Nothing had value or meaning for Abraham except in terms of his relationship to God. Paul said that he counted everything as "dung" compared to his relation to God in Christ. This means that the fear of the Lord shows itself in withholding nothing from God, however dear to us it may be, Genesis 22:12. Furthermore, when we fear God we learn to hate evil_The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate, Proverbs 8:13, and we depart from it_ By the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil, Proverbs 16:6

PRAYER TO REMOVE DEMONIC HARASSMENT

I worship and honor my heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to assign Your holy angels to protect me from any strategies of darkness designed to oppose this prayer for freedom.
In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of His blood, I affirm my authority over all the wicked spirits assigned to control me and hinder my life and witness for Christ. I now command all lingering wicked spirits to cease their work and be bound in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. I also bind all replacer wicked spirits assigned to rebuild evicted strongholds. They may not do that! I command all those spirits assigned against me to remain whole spirits. I forbid any dividing, restructuring, or multiplying of wicked spirits working against me.
All powers of darkness having assignment against me must hear and obey Him who is their Creator and Conqueror. I affirm that God has seated me with Christ Jesus in the heavenly realms far above all principalities and supernatural powers of darkness.
Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You to tell all of these powers of darkness assigned to rule over me where they must go. Confine them where they can never trouble me again. I yield fully to all of the purposes You have in this battle I have been facing. In Your great name I pray. Amen.

THE NINTH COMMANDMENT

The ninth commandment, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" (Ex. 20:16), has been widely misinterpreted to mean that "Thou shalt at all times and under all circumstances tell the truth to all men who may ask anything of you."
...But does God require us to tell the truth at all times? Such a proposition is highly questionable. The commandment is very clear: we are not to bear false witness against our neighbor, but this does not mean that our neighbor or our enemy is ever entitled to the truth from us, or any word from us, about matters of no concern to them, or of private nature to us. No enemy or criminal has any right to knowledge from us which can be used to do us evil. Scripture does not condemn Abraham and Isaac for lying in order to avoid murder and rape (Gen. 12:11-13; 20:2; 26:6,7); on the contrary, both are richly blessed by God, and the men who placed them in such an unhappy position are condemn and judged (Gen. 12:15-20; 20:3-18; 26:10-16). Like examples abound in Scripture. No one who is seeking to do us evil, to violate the law in reference to us or to another, is entitled to the truth.
More than that, it can with scriptural grounds be called an evil to tell the truth to evil men and enable them thereby to expedite their evil. Asaph declared, "When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers" (Ps. 50:18). To see theft and to be silent is to be party to the theft. To see men planning theft or murder, and then to answer truthfully concerning the whereabouts of the man, woman, or property they mean to kill, rape, or steal, is to be party to their offense. Such truth-telling is then participation in the crime. In terms of this, Rahab, had she told the truth, would have been an accessory to the death of two men.
...To return to the matter of truth-telling, the Christian is under obligation to God to tell the truth at all times where normal communication exists. This truth telling means, not the exposure of our privacy, but bearing a true witness in relation to our neighbor. It does not apply to acts of war. Spying is legitimate, as are deceptive tactics in warfare. Protection from thieves requires concealment and walls.

"NO CONDEMNATION"

Some twenty years ago, I knew as pastor a woman, her husband and children, whose father was a church officer in a nearby community, in a "Bible-believing" church. Every Sunday afternoon and evening, after worship services, this man grieved over his sins. He had never fornicated, committed adultery, smoked, drank, cheated, bore false witness, and so on, and had been an exemplary husband and father. Every pastor he had known had only two kinds of messages, however; first, there were sermons with a John 3:16 theme, the call to be converted, and second, those with an indictment of the faithful for their sins, and a call to repentance.
Now both are great and basic themes of Scripture. They involve the basics of the faith. But both themes, as presented today, are perverted grossly. Our concern here is with sin and repentance. When I was in the church pastorate, one officer regularly demanded that I preach such sermons because Jane Doe smokes, John Blank sometimes yawns through Sunday School, and so on. No man needed repentance and conversion more than the man who asked that I preach at people. (He later left the church, with some promptings.)
Again,I regularly hear of pastors preaching sermons at their congregations for a variety of highly refined reasons, often subtle or open efforts to create guilt feelings rather than godly action. The old man whose daughter I knew grieved because he could not pray five minutes without becoming bored and wordless; somehow, this made him very unspiritual. You can talk by the hour with your friends, his pastor declared, with thumps, but you can't talk ten minutes with God! The old man, with such preaching, felt permanently guilty. He never had instruction in living all day with the Lord, his mind ever open to God in sentence prayers.
All such sin and repentance preaching is pagan. This paganism runs deep in Reformed and Arminian circles, in pietism and Catholicism, in medievalism, and finally, in ancient pagan cults. In each and every form, it adds up to one evil: no absolution. If you convince people that they are sinners for non-Biblical reasons, such as being bored with your preaching, or for not praying thirty minutes, an hour, or two hours daily, then you cut them off permanently from one of the most glorious facts of Scripture: absolution. Paul declares emphatically:

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ
Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Rom. 8:1)

No condemnation! How can men dare to condemn where God does not condemn?

AGAINST MUCH PRAYING

One of the familiar and very much neglected comments by our Lord has to do with prayer. We are commanded to pray, and to pray quietly, without ostentation, and "in secret," i.e., not to publicize our praying. "When ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do: for they think they shall be heard by their much speaking" (Matt. 6:7). Note that repetitions are not forbidden, but vain repetitions are. The widow in our Lord's parable was much given to intense repetition ("Avenge me of my adversary"), but it was not vain repetition but rather a repeated and passionate prayer for justice (Luke 18:1-8). He condemns "much speaking" or praying which has as its purpose a desire to impress God.

This is especially a great temptation in our time. We live in what some call the democratic age; even tyrannies function in the name of the People. They hold mock elections in which everyone must vote, even though all candidates run unopposed, as in the Soviet Union. The People must all favor what has been predetermined for them. Even the Soviet Communist Party leaders, who know that the elections are a formality, go through the sanctimonious ritual of voting. It is a religious duty for the People to express their common will!

Given this mentality, now more than ever, people are impressed by numbers. More than a few organizations add thousands of worthless names to their mailing lists because prospective donors are influenced by numbers!

...The demand for numerical strength continues unabated, despite a world filled with examples of failures. Even worse, this mind-set has infected prayer. The assumption is that, if we can get 1 million people, or even 10,000, praying zealously for something, God will give it to us! The assumption is that God is guided, not by His knowledge and wisdom, but by our nagging.

The results are tragically evil. Devout Protestants, who view the medieval endowments for continuous prayers by monks and nuns with horror, now create "prayer towers" where 24 hours daily, a number of people are gathered to pray for all prayer requests. One evangelist on television has said that as many as 35,000 people have tried to call his "800" number in a single hour.

Somehow, people believe that God will hear them more readily if 500 or 5,000 people are praying for them. Whatever happened to the priesthood of all believers? Must a professional praying-person pray for us before God hear us?

A good many years ago, a sick man asked me to pray for him. I knew the man well, and that he was afraid of death and admitted it. I told him to do his own praying, and to begin by confessing his very serious sins. He refused. He wanted healing not communion with God.

...Even more, how many concern themselves with God's Kingdom and justice? Yet our Lord tells us, in Matthew 6:33, "seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness," or justice. Are not unending "gimme" prayers insulting to God? Do they not become more insulting when we line up great numbers of people to nag God?

Our Lord gives us His model of prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, declaring, "After this manner therefore pray ye." We are to begin by hallowing His name. Our paramount request must be, "Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

God wants His kingdom to rule and reign as fully on earth as in heaven, and we have a duty to pray for this, and to work for it. He has given us the laws of His Kingdom, and we must obey and apply them.

As we are faithful, so He too is faithful. He will give us our daily bread, and He forgives our debts "as we forgive our debtors". Prayer has as its companion obedience and action. The focus of prayer is wrong if it is our needs primarily rather than God's Kingdom.

LA MUJER QUE TEME A JEHOVÁ (English)

A. ¿PARA QUÉ VIVEN LAS MUJERES?

a. Entre Otras Mujeres

THE WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD

A. WHAT DO WOMEN LIVE FOR?

    1. Favor

    a. Among Other Women

(1). Their purpose in living is to impress other women of fine taste, culture, wealth and intelligence that they are their equals, or even superiors.

(2). These women are slaves to worry, frustration, jealousy, envy and bitterness.

     b. Among Men

(1). Some live to be recognized for their liberation and equality with men.

(2). Some live to be sexually stimulating to men.

     c. However Favor is Deceitful

(1). Among women. If you live for their favor, they will hate you or see through you.

(2). Among men. Live for them and they will use, manipulate and take advantage of you.

     2. Beauty, i.e., Perpetual, Unchanging Youthfulness

Beauty is good and God-given, but it becomes ugliness when it is lived for idolatrously.

Nothing is more tragic than a woman who refuses to admit to herself that she is aging.

Beauty is vain, i.e., it fades And the woman who lives for it will be a slave to fear and self-centeredness. There are few things uglier than an older woman trying to look as she did when she was a very young woman, by means of cosmetics and surgery.

   3. God, to Fear and Please Him

To live for favor or beauty is to be man's woman, and that is slavery. To live for God is to be God's woman, and that is true freedom.

A woman who fears the Lord is the most beautiful woman in the world. This fear makes her unique and attractive to Christian eyes. Without this godly fear, all of her other qualities are perverted and misshapen.

B. WHAT DOES THIS FEAR OF THE LORD IN WOMEN LOOK LIKE?

   1. The Centrality of the Fear of God in the Christian Life: the Fear of the Lord is the Principal Thing God Requires of His People

The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person, Ecclesiastes 12:13

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction, Proverbs 1:7.

The fear of the Lord is the soul of godliness_And Abraham said, "Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place; and they will kill me because of my wife, Genesis 20:11. (See also Job 1:8, Proverbs 9:10, 1:7, Genesis 20:11, Isaiah 11:2,3, Luke 1:50, II Corinthians 7:1, Colossians 3:22, Acts 9:31.) The church walks in the fear of the Lord because the Spirit of Christ indwells, fills, directs and empowers the church; and because the Holy Spirit is the creator of this fear in our hearts for He is The Spirit of the fear of the Lord, Isaiah 11:2. The fear of the Lord gives the most practical and mundane of duties their impetus_Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth... with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord, Colossians 3:22. And the fear of the Lord realizes the highest reaches of sanctification_Therefore, Having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God, II Corinthians 7:1.
I call this highest duty, because it is not only a duty itself, but, as it were, it is the salt that seasons every duty. For there is no duty performed by us that can by any means be accepted of God, if it be not seasoned with godly fear.- John Bunyan, THE FEAR OF GOD

THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT

The eighth commandment, one of the two shortest, declares simply, "Thou shalt not steal" (Ex. 20:15; Deut. 5:19). Theft or stealing is taking another man's property by coercion, fraud, or without his uncoerced consent. Cheating, harming property, or destroying its value is also theft. It is not necessary for the robbed to know of the theft for it to be a sin. Thus, to ride a train or bus without paying one's fare is theft, even though the transportation company is unaware of the act.
Theft can be accomplished in a number of ways. First, in simple theft the thief robs the victim directly. Second, in complex but still direct theft, the thief robs the victim as part of the group of thieves. In such a case, a man may not be directly involved in the act of theft, but he is a party to it all the same as a knowing party in the corporate group of thieves. Third, theft can be accomplished by indirect and legal means, i.e., by passing a law which steals from the rich, the poor, or the middle-classes, for the benefit of a particular group. The state then becomes the agency whereby theft is accomplished, and a pseudo-moral cover is given by legal enactment.
Theft is not only the expropriation, legally or illegally, of another man's property against his will or by fraud, but also the destruction of property, or the value of property, by any wilful act or by accident. Thus, to destroy a man's house by arson or theft, but it is also theft if the house is burned down by carelessness. To damage a man's automobile is to rob him of its value; in this area, restitution has been made more or less mandatory by the insurance laws of various states. Because inflation weakens or destroys the values of paper currencies, inflation too is very definitely a form of theft.
Fraud too is clearly theft. A man may willingly purchase an item under the impression that it is what it is represented to be, but fraud on the part of the seller makes it clearly theft. to sell a man watered milk is theft; pure food and drug laws, however much abused today, are still valid laws in terms of Scripture. However, a corrupt people begets a corrupt state, which then cannot enforce even the best of laws without
corruption.
Necessity does not justify theft; necessity cannot give man any priority over God's law. However, some Roman Catholic thinkers, following the Greek natural law tradition, have given moral countenance to theft in times of necessity... Such a perspective gives man's life priority over God's law.
...Thus far, our definition of theft is incomplete. It must be added that theft is one form of violation of God's fundamental order. Theft is therefore more than an offense against another person; it is an offense against God. God requires us to respect the life, marriage, and property of our neighbor and enemy, not because our neighbor or enemy is not possibly evil, and not because our own needs are not great, but because His law-order takes priority over the condition of man. Neither the nature of our neighbor's character, which may be evil, nor our need, which may be great, can justify theft. The sovereignty of God requires the priority of His law-word.
